- Fujitsu Palm Vein Authentication Technology Wins The Wall Street Journal 2005 Innovation Award for Security in Networks
Kawasaki, October 25, 2005 – Fujitsu Laboratories Limited today announced that its palm vein authentication technology has won The Wall Street Journal's Innovation Award, for Security in Networks. Fujitsu's palm vein authentication technology is a biometric technology that recognizes the unique vein pattern of a person's palm, as a highly secure means of personal identification. This technology is extremely difficult to forge compared to other methods of biometric security, since palm vein patterns are internal to the body. Fujitsu's palm vein authentication technology is also hygienic, as the scanning is contactless, thereby requiring no direct surface contact with the scanning device even when used in public applications. Fujitsu has commercialized this technology, which thus far has been implemented in bank ATMs, for room entry access in hospitals and residential condominiums, and for access to personal records and transcripts at academic institutions.
