Muscarello of The Laboratory for Software Metrics concluded that when Fujitsu Software solutions combined with Visual Studio .NET 2003 are used, the time required to Web-enable mission-critical COBOL/CICS legacy applications is on average less than 3 percent of the time needed to rewrite the applications in JAVA. A common understanding has been that rewriting was one of the few choices available if applications were to take advantage of newer technologies like the Microsoft .NET Framework™. This study indicates there are other more viable routes. These applications still provide tremendous value but are on costly platforms with limited tools to extend them for today's business needs. Washington, D.C., February 13, 2005 – Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. will introduce the retail industry's first wireless attendant option based on Microsoft Windows for self-checkout systems at the Food Marketing Institute's (FMI) 2005 Marketechnics Show Feb. 13-15 in Washington, D.C. The iPAD Mobile Attendant will enable one store associate to support as many as six U-Scan self-checkout lanes at once, while continuing to serve customers.

Tokyo, February 1, 2005 – Fujitsu Limited today announced that it will shift completely to the use of biodegradable plant-based materials for the manufacture of embossed carrier tape, used for packing large-scale integrated circuit chips (LSIs) when shipping them on reels (Figure 1, Figure 2). Fujitsu expects an 11% reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2 ) emissions by employing biodegradable plant-based materials to produce embossed carrier tape, in place of polystyrene, a material which was conventionally used in the industry.
