Fujitsu Named a Preferred Supplier to The Quilt Consortium of Research and Education Facilities

FLASHWAVE® Optical Transport Solutions Now Available for Coalition of Advanced Regional Network Organizations

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.

Richardson, TX, April 18, 2007

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, announced today that it has become a preferred supplier of optical transport solutions for The Quilt research/education consortium as part of their Vendor Affiliate Program. Now, the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 4500 multiservice provisioning platform (MSPP), FLASHWAVE 7420 managed wavelength platform and FLASHWAVE 7500 reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) platforms are available to members of The Quilt for immediate deployment within their regional optical networks.

Comprised of 28 leading U.S.-based research and networking organizations, The Quilt is a dynamic forum where leaders from throughout the advanced research and education network community build on the intellectual capital and best practices of network equipment providers. The agreement allows members of The Quilt to purchase the cost-effective, high-performance FLASHWAVE optical transport platforms directly from Fujitsu, and give the research and education community access to optical transport platforms that support the ever-increasing bandwidth requirements of educational institutions without the need to reinvest in capital equipment.

"The Fujitsu optical transport platforms are ideal for our members needs for state-of-the-art regional networks," said Hudnall Croasdale, executive director of The Quilt. "Not only do the platforms give us advanced functionality, they’re also proven solutions that are widely deployed in metropolitan, regional, and long-haul applications within the carrier class network deployed by major carriers."

"As a strong advocate of research and education, Fujitsu often collaborates on research projects with the academic community, joining forces to pioneer innovative technologies such as optical network optimization and applications of Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS)." said Jim Hintze, senior vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. "This agreement extends our partnership with academia, enabling members of The Quilt to construct advanced regional optical networks based on the most reliable and widely-deployed optical transport solutions in North America."
