Fujitsu Introduces Three New High-Performance, 8-bit Microcontrollers to Serve Expanding Home Electronics Market

Industry’s Most Sophisticated MCU Features 11 Communications Channels

Fujitsu Semiconductor America Inc.

Sunnyvale, CA, September 09, 2005

Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today introduced three new 8-bit microcontrollers developed for consumer electronics and home appliances. The MB95F136H, MB95F128H, and MB95F118H high-performance 8-bit MCUs are the latest additions to the Fujitsu F²MC-8FX family, expanding its range to meet the diverse requirements of the consumer electronics market.

"Home and consumer appliances have been adapting rapidly to digital technology, creating many new applications for cost-efficient, 8-bit microcontrollers," said Akio Nezu, senior marketing manager for Fujitsu Microelectronics America. "Fujitsu has developed an impressive product portfolio to take advantage of the emerging market opportunities. These new 8-bit MCUs expand our offerings of versatile, low-power controllers for a wide range of consumer products."

All three new microcontrollers are designed for use with 5V single power supplies, and each can also be used with 3V supplies. The devices have been designed to function at a wide range of voltages in order to accommodate a wide range of power-supply designs.

The 28-pin MB95F136H offers superior functionality as a sub-microprocessor in home appliances. It incorporates 32KB of Flash memory and 1KB RAM, along with an 8-channel, 10-bit A/D converter; eight external interrupts input; and a maximum of 19 I/O ports. The device supports two channels of either UART, LIN or SIO interfaces.

The 100-pin MB95F128H is designed for use as a primary controller for applications that have display features. It includes 60KB Flash and 2KB RAM on board, along with support for LIN, UART and I²C interfaces. The device incorporates Fujitsu's proprietary dual-operation Flash memory with two memory banks, which can access the same Flash memory to read data for the program execution and to write data to storage like an EEPROM. This dual-operation memory architecture reduces part counts and the total circuit board footprint.

The MB96F128H also includes 12 channels of 10-bit A/D, along with up to 12 external interrupts and as many as 86 I/O ports. The device supports three channels of either UART, LIN or SIO interfaces.

The third version, the MB95F118H, provides 60KB Flash and 2KB RAM, with eight 10-bit A/D channels and up to eight external interrupts. The device supports three channels of either UART, LIN or SIO interfaces.

To support the development environment of the MCUs, Fujitsu is providing an evaluation board and developer's kit that works with the entire F²MC-8FX family, providing a single environment for development and evaluation. The kit consists of the MB2146-301, an evaluation board for 3V development, the MB2146-303, and a board for a 5V combination with the MB2146-09, which serves as the interface adapter from the PC USB port.

Pricing and Availability
The MB95F136H comes in a 28-pin small outline package, with prices starting at $4.50 each in sample quantities. The MB95128H is available in 100-pin, low-power quad flat packs or in 100-pin QFPs at $7.25 each in sample quantities. The MB95F118H is packaged in a 48-pin QFP, with a sample quantity price of $5.45 each.
