Fujitsu Names Kazuyuki Kawauchi New President, Chief Executive Officer of Fujitsu Microelectronics America

Succeeds Kazuo "Ken" Iida Effective April 1, 2005

Fujitsu Semiconductor America Inc.

Sunnyvale, CA, April 07, 2005

Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today announced that Kazuyuki Kawauchi has been named president and chief executive officer.

Kawauchi assumes his new post effective April 1, the beginning of the company's fiscal year. He replaces Kazuo "Ken" Iida, who becomes an advisor to Fujitsu Microelectronics America and will remain in the United States for a year.

Kawauchi, who has more than 25 years' experience in semiconductor development and processing technologies, has held various management positions at Fujitsu Limited and its affiliates. Before joining FMA, Kawauchi had been general manager of the Technology Development Division of the Electronic Devices Group of Fujitsu Limited, where he was in charge of developing technologies and methodologies for 90nm devices.

From July 2000 through June 2002, he was vice president of Fujitsu's design methodology and infrastructure group, the WWSLT (Worldwide System LSI Technology), headquartered in Fujitsu Microelectronics in the United States.

"Mr. Kawauchi has been instrumental in leading Fujitsu's semiconductor CAD development throughout his career in Fujitsu," said Iida. "He now brings his experience, energy and vision to the North American operation where we need his expertise and insight into technologies and methodologies for 90nm ASIC and other high-performance ASSP products. I am confident that he will be an excellent leader for FMA."

"I am pleased to have this new assignment. I have worked with many people at FMA and feel that I am back to working with my colleagues," said Kawauchi. "FMA has a strong portfolio of ASIC, communications, networking, controller and other leading-edge semiconductor products to support the North American market."

"To meet new customer demands, Fujitsu has developed a new Integrated Device Manufacturing (IDM) service business model, designed to provide services ranging from flexible design methodologies to a comprehensive set of IPs, as part of developing alliances tailored to specific customer needs," he added. "We will continue to fully utilize Fujitsu's global development and manufacturing resources to meet these new requirements. I am also eager for FMA to continue to play a leading role in the Fujitsu organization by developing new products for emerging global markets."

When Kawauchi first joined Fujitsu Limited in 1978 as an LSI engineer in the CAD Development Division, he was responsible for the development of an automatic placement and routing system for gate array style LSI design.

In 1989, Kawauchi became section manager with responsibility for the development of a standard cell layout system used for mainframe computer design. He was also responsible for the development of an automatic, high-density macro design system, and a cell design and modeling system using object-oriented methodology.

In 1995, Kawauchi was transferred to Fujitsu LSI Technology Ltd. and became director of the LSI CAD Development Department. There he was responsible for PC-based LSI CAD development and marketing. He also promoted the development of a power analysis system. In 1997, as a director in charge of firmware development, Kawauchi developed three-dimensional audio decoder and encode/decode software for cellular phones. Kawauchi became deputy general manager of design methodology, where he was responsible for directing and managing activities related to the planning and development of system LSI design methodology. He was also in charge of Fujitsu's CAD division.
