Advanced Imaging Concepts Wins Fujitsu's ISV Innovative Leadership Award

Large Physician Group Practice Uses IMPACT.MD and Fujitsu Scanners to Automate Patient Charts

Louisville, KY, November 14, 2003 - Advanced Imaging Concepts, a leading provider of paperless solutions for the healthcare industry, and globally recognized player on the information technology landscape announced that Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., has awarded Advanced Imaging Concepts its ISV Innovative Leadership Award for its solution implemented at Bristol Park Medical.

The award is designed to recognize independent software and hardware vendors' significant contributions to content management solutions that streamline business processes and positively impact their customers' bottom lines.

Bristol Park Medical is an 85-provider primary care physician group in Orange County, California. The group specializes in family practice, pediatrics, and internal medicine within 11 medical offices and one business center. Over 800 full- and part-time staff members support the practice, with approximately 525 FTEs. According to John M. Somers, CPA and Bristol's Chief Operating Officer, the practice was drowning in paper. "In 41 years of practicing medicine, Bristol Park had accumulated over 250,000 patient charts. These were located within our offices and in outside storage. Using conservative numbers, we estimate that we were handling at least 40 charts per physician per day, with an average of 65 physicians working each day. That's a minimum of 2,600 charts in flux every day," said Somers. "AIC suggested that we use Fujitsu's high-speed scanners along with IMPACT.MD to get the maximum benefit from the system," said Somers. He says the practice purchased 40 of the fi-4120 model that scans 25 pages per minute, and 15 of the fi-4340 that scans 40 pages per minute.

"We put a 4340 in each records room to deal with the large-volume scanning efforts for chart conversion, and we use the 4120 model in the front offices and physician suites for individual pieces of paper such as in-take records, insurance cards, or any paper generated within our office." The ease of using both IMPACT.MD and Fujitsu scanners has created a climate for the success of the product, according to Somers. "As people are learning the system, they are becoming faster and better and enjoying it more," he said. "Plus, with repeat patients, staff members are seeing true benefits from their work in getting the charts into the system. If Martha came in June and her chart was scanned into the system, and now she is back in August, no new work has to happen for her. She is in the system and the staff members can just access her chart with the click of a mouse."
