Fujitsu Broadens Wireless with WiMAX at Broadband World Forum 2008
Fujitsu showcases class-leading WiMAX solutions designed for rapid and cost-efficient deployment, complemented by Network Provisioning Services that ensure best-fit to an operator's business model.
Birmingham, 30th September 2008 — Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited (FTEL), a leading supplier of IT and Networking Solutions, is introducing its WiMAX solutions on Stand No: 464, at this year's Broadband World Forum Europe (Brussels, 29th September - 2nd October), including Fujitsu’s award-winning BroadOne™ WX series of mobile WiMAX base stations. The BroadOne WX300 mobile WiMAX macro base station, on show in Brussels, represents one of the smallest, lightest and most power-efficient outdoor designs currently available, providing Tier 1 or Tier 2 operators with a fast and easy-to-install, low maintenance in-service solution.
Conceived as a best-in-class product complying with WiMAX Forum Wave 2 certification, the success of the BroadOne WX300’s design has already resulted in the prestigious 2008 Best of WiMAX World EMEA System Design Award, and the Internet Telephony WiMAX Distinction Award. It provides the mobile infrastructure to support fast deployments, capitalising on the rapidly evolving market for anytime-anywhere broadband connectivity. Supporting wide-area coverage, with a transmission radius of several kilometres, the BroadOne WX300’s single-box approach integrates the radio system, baseband processor, power supply, GPS receiver and network interface in a compact, lightweight enclosure of only 20 litres. The design’s power consumption is significantly less than comparable 3G stations, with its comparative weight reduced by some 50%. The combined benefits of fast installation, energy efficiency and reliable fan-less design ensure genuine CapEx and OpEx savings for an operator.
Addressing a wide range of frequencies and operational conditions, the BroadOne WX300 supports channel bandwidths up to 20MHz. The base station’s state-of-the-art 2x10W radio system, with MIMO A and B, is based on Fujitsu’s non-linear digital pre-distortion technology and utilises the company’s Gallium Nitride High Electron Mobility Transistor design. Fractional Frequency Re-use, together with the design’s MIMO A and B capability, ensure optimum support for Multicast and Broadcast services.
Complementing the BroadOne WX300 on show at Broadband World Forum Europe is Fujitsu's proprietary Network Dimensioning toolset, forming part of Fujitsu's full range of Network Provisioning Services to complement its WiMAX technologies. Fujitsu's Network Dimensioning facilities are applied to determine an appropriate base-station count, combined with business evaluation and cost-modelling tools to derive a ROI analysis for an operator’s proposed deployment. Together with RF propagation modelling, as well as digital terrain and clutter mapping, Fujitsu’s services can determine precise technology and spectrum requirements, to ensure accurately-specified radio access infrastructures.
