Sparkling, Sharp Scans: Certified Scanner Cleaning Kits from Fujitsu
Fujitsu extends portfolio offering for its scanner family range
London, 04 April 2008 — Fujitsu Europe Limited, one of the leading suppliers of document scanners, is introducing new cleaning packages for all document scanners in its ‘fi’ and ‘ScanSnap’ ranges. These perfectly tuned kits provide everything required for thorough cleaning of the scanner casing and all paper-feeding scanner parts. These new cleaning solutions are manufacturer-certified and can help ensure high-quality scan results and reliable paper feeds whilst keeping cleaning time to a minimum.
Although it may seem like a chore, proper cleaning is essential for the upkeep and the longevity of any scanner. If not performed on a regular basis, the build up of dirt can start to adversely affect scan quality. Chemical residues on scanned documents can damage the paper-feeding, resulting in increased paper jams, whilst dust and toner residue that gathers over time from scanned documents can cause stripes along the edges, unclear lines and smearing of individual characters. This makes it difficult to make out text and images reliably and the recognition accuracy of any attached Optical or Intelligent Character Recognition (OCR/ICR) software can suffer greatly. In order to avoid this situation, regular and thorough cleaning of the scanner is both necessary and recommended.
Cleaning Kit Selections
Fujitsu’s cleaning package comes in two versions. The “Desktop Scanner Cleaning Kit” which includes a specially formulated
“F1” cleaning fluid in a neat and user-friendly pump-action spray bottle, cleaning cloths and coated cleaning sheets. These
should be used for regular cleaning to quickly remove loose dust and dirt particles in the area of the paper path and rubber
rollers. The “Production Scanner Cleaning Kit” also includes the “F2” cleaner specifically designed for cleaning metal rollers
used in Fujitsu high-volume document scanners.
Both kits come with a detailed user manual for the individual cleaning components which can also be downloaded as a pdf file from the Fujitsu website.
The manufacturer-certified cleaning liquids “F1” and “F2” ensure simple, thorough and above all safe cleaning. Thoroughly tested by Fujitsu, these liquids will not cause any chemical damage to the surface structure, rollers or casing of the scanners. The liquids remove all sorts of dirt, fine dust, document particles, toner residue as well as carbon and residue from chemically treated paper. It is easy to use: put a little “F1” liquid (for metal rollers use “F2” liquid) on the cleaning paper, then clean all accessible, marked, scanner parts inside the opened scanner casing. The cleaning mode for each scanner means that the scanner can be easily cleaned by hand – from the casing to the glass cover of the camera modules.
Optimum Performance
In addition to fluff-free cleaning cloths, the package also includes specially coated cleaning sheets, designed to be used
to clean parts of the scanner that come into contact with the documents being scanned. These sheets work by being drawn into
the scanner as usual and, thanks to the adhesive layer, remove gathered particles of dust from feed, separation and brake
rollers and from the glass surfaces of the camera modules. The improved scan results can be seen in a few seconds. As well
as providing an optimum visual result, regular use will also have a positive effect on the document feeding performance of
the scanning equipment.
“With the Cleaning Kit, we are giving our customers the possibility of continuously maintaining their equipment at a high performance level,” says Klaus Schulz, Manager Product & Channel Marketing EMEA, Imaging Systems Division, Fujitsu Europe Limited (Group). “We offer our customers a cleaning system that is perfectly tailored to our scanner models and which will help ensure optimal performance in terms of both feeding and image quality for the end user and to obtain the most productivity from their investment.”
