Fujitsu announces service-oriented software platform for collaborative computing

Paris, 5th September 2005 — Fujitsu Systems Europe announces the immediate availability of SynfiniWay™ V2, a versatile software platform for service-oriented computing across distributed and grid infrastructures. With a framework that virtualises global resources, SynfiniWay presents applications as services that are easily linked by sequence or data dependency to automate most IT-based processes. SynfiniWay-enabled processes are quicker and more robust, leading to faster analyses, higher quality output and lower costs.

Initial customers include leading automotive manufacturers who have deployed SynfiniWay as the standard interface for their mechanical simulation and analysis processes, part of the rapidly growing Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) market. All direct connection to the servers is replaced by a single sign-on from the client desktop, and existing applications are encapsulated as services to increase the robustness of their end-use. Process operations are strengthened by the deployment of resilient workflows with self-repairing capabilities. Within the Aerospace market interest has centred on using SynfiniWay to couple separate applications in a workflow. Several users are now in advanced stages of workflow development and testing, including concurrent multi-tasking and implicit data flow management across geographically-separated sites.

Productivity increased

On Windows®, Linux® or UNIX® operating systems, and across any network topology, SynfiniWay standardises the interface to applications and systems to raise end-user efficiency, reducing failure and re-work. SynfiniWay provides a user-centric infrastructure that makes technical processes easier to set up, adapt and monitor. And because these processes are more stable and simpler to run they become open to a wider end-user base than before.

Flexibility built-in

For each application service SynfiniWay dynamically selects the run-time machine from the entire resource pool, giving improved ROI from greater overall utilisation. Higher operational QoS is achieved from the failover resilience of the processes, and by pro-active deployment of machines to services. Whatever the active resource, SynfiniWay seamlessly combines internal or external (hosted, utility) machines so that the end-user service view is unchanged.

Collaboration simplified

Collaboration is at the core of the SynfiniWay development. Features such as shared workspaces and processes, multi-level data and access security, and comprehensive auditing provide the basis for a more integrated and wide-ranging co-operation than has previously been possible across a distributed computing environment – synchronising end-users, groups and organisations.

SynfiniWay is a solution to manage an increasingly diverse computing environment, over the complete project lifetime. Because of its service-oriented foundation and integrated workflow, SynfiniWay extends application connectivity across processes that link many more stages in the production chain. Any business using distributed or grid computing will benefit from its unique value combination of Productivity, Flexibility and Collaboration – markets including Automotive and Aerospace, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical, Oil and Gas, Electronic Design Automation and Financial Risk Analysis.

SynfiniWay may be purchased directly from Fujitsu Systems Europe; support is provided by Fujitsu Systems Europe and Fujitsu Limited.
