Unédic, the organisation that manages the French national unemployment scheme, has completed a two year project to gain a consolidated view of its entire IT environment. Bénédict Douillet, Head of the Department of Strategy and Projects at Unédic, explains how they tackled this complex mission.
Unédic is the body responsible for managing unemployment benefits in France. It collects insurance contributions from employers, pays benefits to job seekers and produces employment statistics for the government.
As with any public sector organisation, Unédic’s IT department is faced with a vast array of end-users, including the organisation that pays the benefits (Assédic), the national employment agency (ANPE) and millions of job seekers. This equates to almost 295 million transactions each month, involving 40 different business processes, supported by 1,700 servers and a team of 11,000.
A typical business process is updating job seeker information. Current and former job seekers refresh their details at the end of each month, keeping Unédic informed of their employment status. This update typically prompts payment of benefits or removal from the system if they have found employment.
