Shared Services in Local Government

Fujitsu Services have worked closely with Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire County Councils to create a shared IT services application for enterprise resource planning (ERP). This is a first for local government – never before have two county councils collaborated on such a large scale.

Cambridgeshire County Council says it is able to deliver a high performance, sustainable corporate service, but for £1 million less. The service is also on track to save Northamptonshire County Council £2 million in the next two years. This money can be directed into front-line customer services such as caring for older people, the disabled and families, or providing improved schools, public transport and community facilities such as libraries.

“We have a good working relationship with Northamptonshire County Council and had a shared vision to create a modern and cost effective ERP system, so there seemed to be a good opportunity for us to collaborate and achieve significant efficiency and performance gains and cost savings,” says Stephen Moir, Director of People and Policy at Cambridgeshire County Council.
