Cloud Computing
When is it a step too far for your data?
Glenn Fitzgerald & Jonathan Bridges

Cloud computing coverage is ubiquitous: from the national press to specialist IT publications and insider blogs, the cloud model that promises the delivery of applications and data as a service over the Internet is widely proclaimed as the future of IT.
But we would argue that, for many, the public cloud will be a step too far. When organisations need to know the location and the security profile of the data centres that hold, process and deliver their IT services and when they need a bit more from their IT than a vanilla service, they will demand a level of service that fills the gap between private, owned data centres and the anonymity of public cloud services. This we call Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) – a businessready, trusted alternative.
Infrastructure as a Service – the data storage advantages
- Cost reductions – Up to 40% per year
- Flexibility – Only pay for IT resources you need
- Greener – With higher IT utilisation and Fujitsu’s data centres, significantly less energy is used
- Regulatory compliance – Guaranteed service levels, data security and location transparency help customers meet a growing list of regulatory requirements
- Strengthens the balance sheet – Capital expenditure on storage equipment is eliminated and operating costs are reduced
