One single number
to contact the council
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council
Weymouth & Portland Council wanted to make access to services and information easier for its residents. This objective was part of the council's plan to meet government targets to deliver all services electronically by 2005, without creating social exclusion.
βOur number one priority was integration,β said Peter Gilmour, Director of Communications. βAt the same time we wanted the best supplier in each field so we ended up asking our short listed suppliers if they could work together. They all said they could so we knew we had some flexibility.β
The council eventually selected a hardware and software solution put forward by Fujitsu and a telephony system proposed by Siemens. The contract was finalised at the end of 2002.
