FEEU announces Ambiq Micro's Apollo 2 Platform

New ultra-low-power MCU doubles the battery life of wearable devices

Fujitsu Electronics Europe

Langen, January 17, 2017

Fujitsu Electronics Europe (FEEU) is bringing Ambiq Micro's Apollo 2 Platform to the European market. The new ultra-low-power MCU offers breakthrough power consumption of around 10µA/MHz, allowing wearables and IoT devices to experience double the battery life compared to the current generation of products. As the exclusive distributor of Ambiq Micro products in Europe, FEEU offers customers both technical support and expertise on the challenges of low-power environments. General availability is planned for the second half of 2017.

Ambiq Micro's ultra-low-power components are key enablers for many different technologies. The platform's low processing power consumption and large memory size give OEMs the ability to develop industry-leading low-power devices. Apollo 2's complete set of peripherals includes:

  • High-precision 14-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADC)
  • Digital microphone interface with pulse density modulation (PDM) for voice applications
  • Voltage comparator
  • Temperature sensor
  • I2C/SPI for communication with sensors, radios, co-processor and other peripherals
  • Universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART) for communication with peripherals and legacy devices
  • Integrated high efficient buck-converters

As a value added distribution partner, FEEU offers more than just technical support for Ambiq Micro products. By working closely with their customers, FEEU's experts gain a deep understanding of the requirements and challenges that shape each individual project. By acting as a single point of contact, they can identify synergies between components and find the best solution, always tailored to their customer's specific needs. This skill is especially important in the low-power realm, where performance and power consumption of a device are dependent on how well its components work together. FEEU's portfolio includes other low-power components like Ferroelectric Random Access Memory (FRAM), and also foundry and packaging services that support near-threshold and sub-threshold applications, satisfying the need for power-efficient and compact solutions.

"Our goal is to accelerate our customer's innovation process by providing them with best-in-class products from all around the world”, says Axel Tripkewitz, president & managing director of FEEU. “Ambiq Micro's Apollo 2 Platform will be another important cornerstone in our line card portfolio, helping our customers to build wearables and IoT devices with maximised performance and minimised power consumption."
