Roy - Product Strategist

Roy, Product Strategist

Name: Roy
Job Title: Product Strategist
Business area: Clinical Domain

What is it like to be a Product Strategist?

I advise on, recommend and design healthcare business solutions necessary to our ever evolving customer. As a healthcare business and informatics specialist, I also provide specialist knowledge on the Cerner Millennium solution and its configuration necessary to Fujitsu delivering this application solution into all customers Trusts throughout Southern England. I work closely with the customer and Cerner in ensuring the application meets our customers defined standards and is operationally acceptable to Trusts.

I soon discovered that Fujitsu offers a wealth of opportunities and, for anyone needing to gain new skills, the training necessary to progressing one’s career. Everyone is encouraged to be proactive about growing their career and to plan the route they wish to pursue. We are not straight-jacketed to a pre-defined track or discipline. Instead, opportunity is available and there to be realised’. I wrote the former paragraph towards the end of my first year with Fujitsu. My opinion has only been reinforced by my subsequent experiences.

What makes you proud to work for Fujitsu Services?

Having worked with other large IT Service companies, I’ve found that we are far more positive towards our clients and meeting their business needs. Partnership and trust are very much at the fore; both their realisation and continued delivery. Commitments are met and, being someone who spends considerable time with clients, I know they will be met.

Is the organisation open, honest and fair?

Fujitsu is a very open and supportive environment. Everyone is encouraged to contribute to solutions and decisions. And, to support colleagues who need advice or direction. Consequently, it is not a company of cliques. Information is openly shared.

Do you feel trusted and valued?

From the outset, I have been encouraged to take the initiative. This has led to me taking on additional responsibilities that might normally fall to others but for which I had particular knowledge or expertise leading to me becoming the recognised specialist. Thus, I lead activities outside the standard role to which I am attached. I am trusted and valued by my customers and my colleagues. And, by Fujitsu.

What are your colleagues like to work with?

‘The great thing is that smiles abound. This leads to people being more courteous to each other and widening their contact base. We really do support each other. In turn this means we are often not only colleagues but friends’. Again, I wrote those words towards the end of my first year with Fujitsu. Since then, the company, and especially the NHS Account, has grown considerably. Growth often relegates those traits but not here. They still abound.

What would you change about Fujitsu Services?

I don’t think I would change anything of my job nor of what I’ve found within Fujitsu. I am really pleased and proud to have joined. It has been a fun and rewarding ride, participating in recruiting more consultants and, as with everyone else, Fujitsu’s service and cultural improvement programmes.

How has Fujitsu Services changed since you joined?

The most recognisable change that I’ve witnessed is the growth of the company and how so many new joiners have been assimilated with ease.

Work/life balance: What do you like doing outside of work?

My weekends are usually occupied in home and garden improvements for which I am designer, navvy, builder and project manager. My wife is a kindly project director, ensuring high standards and timely deliverables. I also manage some fishing on the local Basingstoke Canal and like to catch up with some of the old rock bands that are still going strong.

What three words would you use to sum up Fujitsu?

Rewarding, Open, Collaborative.
