How would you describe the role of Lead Systems Engineer?
A Lead Systems Engineer role usually requires experience in development, working with a range of technologies and platforms. In addition, experience of the software life-cycle is essential. This includes an understanding of costing projects, creating low-level designs, leading the development, over-seeing validation and delivering the final solution to the customer.
A Lead Systems Engineer role grows over time to include providing technical solutions for established customers. After years of experience in this role the next career step is to become a Customer Solution Architect.
This is an extremely challenging and valuable role in the company as this is the principle route for procuring new business.
How has Fujitsu supported you in your career?
Fujitsu supports software engineers in their career path through training and regular evaluation. Training needs are identified and resources made available to complete it. Training undertaken is aligned to current or future project work and seeks to enhance an engineers skill-set.
My managers have supported my desire to work in different environments and I am currently working in a global virtual team with teams in Japan, Europe and America to deliver strategic development of the Fujitsu global websites.
My role has expanded greatly into non-technical areas and now I, with my colleagues, provide Europe-wide training. We also produce instructional manuals, presentational videos, technical documents and consultancy for new businesses.
The company also encourages flexible working and are supportive of my family commitments and allowed my family to travel with me when I was posted abroad for some time.
