Corporate responsibility report 2008

We were committed to social and environmental causes long before corporate responsibility gained its place on today’s business agenda. We have always believed we have a duty to contribute to the sustainable growth of society in the communities in which we operate – going far beyond a mere focus on corporate profitability.

“The Fujitsu Group is strongly focused on the environment and has engaged in environmental efforts since its founding in 1935 … none of the other top 10 worldwide service providers can demonstrate the same length of commitment or draw upon as deep a reservoir of experience when advising clients about corporate social responsibility.” - IDC Vendor Profile Series, 2007

Although our parent company in Tokyo has produced a sustainability report for many years, this is the first publication that presents the detail from a Fujitsu Services perspective. It summarises the significant steps we have taken towards sustainability in 2008, and identifies some of the key milestones on our journey.

Corporate responsibility has a very broad scope and to frame it in a practical context we have chosen to approach it from four complementary perspectives – Environment, Marketplace, Workplace and Community. We believe these combined initiatives offer a progressive modern agenda for business and society and firm reasons why people and organisations everywhere can continue to address the global future with hope and optimism.

ENVIRONMENT
For Fujitsu, the push to reduce energy, carbon emissions and waste is not a new one – we have been working with sustainability in mind for decades. Our philosophy of operating in harmony with nature is a business driver across the whole organisation, and we recognise that environmental concerns impact all of us – as individuals, as an organisation and collectively as global citizens.

MARKETPLACE
Today, our contracts include a strong emphasis on helping our customers reduce their carbon footprints and as an outsourcer, we can help to ensure that the entire supply chain embraces strong social and environmental principles. From our equipment suppliers right through to the reclamation and recycling processes for end-of-life assets, we are uncovering significant opportunities to introduce new sustainability initiatives.

WORKPLACE
We provide a healthy, safe and supportive environment for our people, without whose commitment we could not achieve our business and corporate responsibility goals. Our aim is to continue to make Fujitsu Services a great place to work and reflect the diversity of the communities in which we operate.

COMMUNITY
Fujitsu Services has a strong tradition of community involvement, and we encourage the use of our peoples’ technical and management skills to support community and charitable activities. We endorse both company and locally-initiated programmes with a particular focus on the areas of education and health.
