FACOM222 (1961)

Fujitsu's first transistor-type electronic computer, completed in 1961. The first unit put into use was delivered to Kyoei Life Insurance Co. The FACOM222 was a large-sized general purpose computer with a memory capacity of 10,000 words in its main memory unit and an auxiliary storage unit (magnetic drum) whose structure allowed for a maximum capacity of 100,000 words. Additionally, it was able to connect up to 10 magnetic tape devices (approx. 200,000 words per unit) as external memory units. In terms of its operating speed, in 1 second it was able to perform 6,250 addition or subtraction operations, 1,100 multiplication operations, or 250 division operations, making it the fastest machine of its type produced in Japan at the time.
