Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific Pte Ltd
Fujitsu Towards A Greener, Healthier World
Making every activity ‘green’, Fujitsu is taking the initiative in implementing the Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive (RoHS) across most newly released products by Winter 2005, well in advance of the July 2006 deadline.
Singapore, 03 January 2006 — Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific today announced that as of Winter 2005 onwards, the majority of Fujitsu’s mobile computing
products are now fully compliant with the European Union’s directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), well
ahead of the directive’s compliance deadline in July 2006. The refreshed Winter 2005 LifeBook S7020, S7021, S6240, S2110,
E8020, C1321 and LifeBook P7120, P1510 and T4020 are all RoHS-compliant.
Committed to the promotion of a clean environment for current and future generations, Fujitsu has adopted a RoHS-compliant
environmental policy, allowing Fujitsu to stay very focused on our customers’ and end-users’ health and well-being, translating
into a healthier environment for all.
A three-pronged approach has been adopted to deliver comprehensive efforts on environmental management with an environmental
action plan, activities for eliminating specified hazardous substances, and a green procurement direction which involves the
promotion of procurement from suppliers that are eager for environmental protection activities and products low in environmental
loads.
Ng Yoon Seng, Vice President, Marketing & Business Operations says “At Fujitsu, we recognise that environmental activities performed by the Fujitsu Group as an IT enterprise help to ensure
the sustainable prosperity of the Asia Pacific and global community. By implementing the RoHS directive, we are making every
effort to leave nature as it is for the next and future generations by ensuring that the entire organisation and the individual
people of Fujitsu Group will always keep ahead of the times when acting for the global environment”.
What specifically is the RoHS?
It stands for "Restriction of Hazardous Substances" and is the European Union (EU) directive that restricts the use of
six hazardous substances in electronic components shipped into Europe. Although this directive officially takes effect on
1 July 2006, majority of Fujitsu’s mobile computing product range is already RoHS-compliant.
What are the Hazardous Substances restricted by RoHS?
The RoHS directive requires that manufacturers be able to demonstrate negative or minimal levels of the following identified
substances in their product manufacture and disposal:
- Lead (Pb)
- Hexavalent chromium (Cr +6)
- Mercury (Hg)
- PolyBrominated Biphenyl (PBB)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- PolyBrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE)
These substances are a risk to human health and are a health hazard when disposed of, and to those who dispose them. The new
RoHS directive, applicable to all technology manufacturers, helps eliminate risks from these substances and ensures not only
a cleaner and safer environment, but adds to the growing global understanding for the need to protect our environment and
the development of ever cleaner and greener new technologies.
Accessories
RoHS-compliant accessories are being phased in for Fujitsu PC products, with a compliance program underway. More information
will soon be available from www.pc-ap.fujitsu.com.
