iSuppli Ranks 2003 Chip Vendors
Bangkok, 11 March 2004 — Market research firm iSuppli Corp. (El Segundo, Calif.) ranked the largest 20 semiconductor vendors according to their 2003 market share, in a report issued Thursday (March 11).
Of the top 20 vendors, eight are Japanese companies, seven are U.S.-based, and three are European. South Korea is represented by Samsung Electronics, now the second largest chip manufacturer after Intel, and Hynix, which grew by a respectable 28.4 percent last year.
Sony, Micron Technology, Sharp Electronics, which grew by 35.6 percent, Hynix, Fujitsu, IBM Microelectronics, Qualcomm, and Rohm also made the top-20 list. IBM, with $2.515 billion in 2003 revenues, shrank by 10.4 percent compared with 2002 revenues of $2.808 billion.
