Frequently Asked Questions

We have lists some commonly asked questions that you might encounter while using the printer. Most of the problems that you have encountered can be easily corrected by yourself.

I've got the printer connected to my network via a 3rd party External Network box and I'm getting garbled printouts.

Later versions of these network interfaces have introduced a higher speed method of talking to the centronics port, either reduce the port speed within the interface box or disable the bi-directional use of the centronics port (via the network interface boxes setup software)

All DL Printers: I'm trying to print barcodes but no barcodes are printed or I get control codes printed instead.

The printer has no means of reporting a syntax error in your escape codes, it only has two options, either print nothing or print out the data as received i.e. as text. Please check carefully the codes you are sending by putting the printer into Hex Dump mode, many systems may/will apply a translation between your application and the printer such that the escape code is no longer valid data. The Hex Dump will show you exactly what codes the printer is receiving, they may not be what you thought you sent.

All DL Printers: I've installed the correct Windows driver for DL printer but printer still prints garbage.

Any Windows driver which refers to the DL model number will have been written to use the Fujitsu DPL24C emulation. Please check your printer is not set to one of the alternate emulations i.e. Epson or IBM proprinter. Make sure the setting is correct within the printers Menu 1 setting, since these are the settings the printer will use at switch on.

When I print from Windows the text looks like an italic font, one line leans to the left and the next leans to the right but I have not selected an italic font, but it is OK when I print from DOS applications

You need to set the printer to Uni-Directional mode in the Hardware menu of the printer set up (on the printer itself, not in the Windows driver)

When installing the Fujitsu printer driver, Windows informs me its an unsigned driver but won't allow the install to continue

To prevent accidental installation of unsigned drivers under Windows 2000/XP, there is a configuration option in the control panel under System | Hardware | Driver signing which allow installation of unsigned drivers to be blocked.

I'm trying to print to a custom paper size under Windows 2000 or XP but the driver does not offer this option.

You can create custom forms under Windows 2000 or XP in the following manner.

Select the Printers folder from either the start menu or control panel. Select File | Server Properties from the menu bar.

This will give access to a window allowing the creation of custom forms/paper sizes; these can then be saved as named forms for future reference.
