Fujitsu Releases Biometric Fingerprint Sensors That Enhances Tighter Security in Personal Identification
Cutting-edge Technology for Future World of Security
Singapore, 8 July 2004 — Today at Thailand Electronics and Industrial Technology Show 2004, Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia Pte Ltd introduces its Biometric Fingerprint Products Family. Fingerprint Identification systems are rapidly replacing identification technology that relies on passwords and personal ID numbers (PINs) which are often lost, forgotten, stolen or misused. With the increasing needs for tighter security measures, the biometric fingerprint technology proves to be the right candidate for the call.
Fujitsu is pleased to offer two main categories of solid-state capacitive based fingerprint sensor - Area and Sweep. Both of the sensors adopt CMOS technology and have earned innovation in product definition, being the first Fujitsu Biometric Sweep Sensor winning the product innovation awards from EDN, Design News and R&D magazines in the Year 2003.
Key features of the two Fingerprint Sensors are as follows : -
About MBF200 Area Sensor
Fujitsu's MBF200 solid-state fingerprint area sensor is targeted at secure mobile-computing and access control authentication systems. The sensor has a 256 x 300 pixel sensor area that produces clear 500dpi resolution fingerprint images. The sensor area of 1.28cm x 1.5cm, and the AFD (auto-finger detection) feature, allow single touch fingerprint authentication. The integrated USB controller and 8-bit A/D converter minimize the needs of external peripherals. With 3 interfaces available, 8-bit MCU, SPI & USB bus, it enables the sensor to communicate under embedded or PC platform. The sensor is coated with an ultra-hard, patented scratch-proof protective layer which can withstand numerous touches. The 1.4mm thin 80-pin LQFP package makes it suitable to be integrated into notebook computers, PC peripherals or any access control units.
About MBF310 Area Sensor
Fujitsu's MBF310 solid-state fingerprint sweep sensor is the newest member of the family. The sensor has a 218 x 8 pixel sensor area with a 500dpi image quality. When a finger sweeps across the surface, the image data is captured by the sensor. This data is synchronized with the CPU for efficient processing through the integrated 2Kbytes FIFO memory, enabling frame sweep rate of 20 cm / sec (8 inches / sec). The MBF310 is packaged in a compact FBGA module with an integrated finger-swipe guide that serves as a tactile feature to help to locate and align the finger. This patent-pending package also simplifies the sensor mounting and industrial design for mobile devices. With its advanced AFD (auto-finger detection) and on-board FIFO memory, the Fujitsu MBF310 sweep sensor optimizes power consumption and CPU efficiency, making it ideal for the next generation of mobiles phones and portable devices.
