Printer Mechanism Offers Compact, Fast Printing Solution for Portable Applications

Singapore, 18 February 2002 — Fujitsu Components Asia, Limited today introduced a new series of high-speed, battery-driven thermal printers with cutting mechanisms for mobile and portable applications.

The FTP-628MCL35x printer series accommodates 2-inch (58mm) wide paper, 60 to 100 micro-millimeters thick. A printer and cutter together measure 26.4mm (H) x 83.5mm (W) x 43.0mm (D) and weigh 120g, making the unit suitable for use in portable terminals, POS equipment, hand-held label printers, banking terminals, and portable measurement and medical equipment. The cutting mechanism performs either full or partial cuts.

Fujitsu also developed a new miniature interface board to support both the printer and cutter. Available in either a parallel or serial version, the mini board measures 69.3mm (L) x 52mm (W) x 11.6mm (H) and is 63 percent smaller than previous printer interface boards.

Fujitsu designed the printer with a front or bottom paper feed mechanism that releases the platen assembly, instead of the thermal head, to give full access to the paper route. This facilitates quick paper replacement and insertion. An automatic paper loading option is also available.

The printer supports a variety of alphanumeric, kana, and international characters. It also supports JIS Kanji using a FTP-628DCL/DSL2xx interface board. A 4.2-8.5VDC power source is required to deliver 60mm/sec (480 dotlines/sec) output speed at 8 dot/mm resolution.

Available immediately, the FTP-628MCL35x series is priced from $57.50 to 58.75 in one-thousand-piece quantities. The FTP-628DCL301 parallel mini board is $56.25 and the FTP-628DSL306 serial mini board is $57.50.
