Fujitsu fi-5650C ScannerThe Fujitsu fi-5650C is a low-volume production colour scanner or corporate users. It is the company’s first automatic document feeder (ADF) scanner with 200-sheet ADF capacity. At $10,163, it captures both sides of a document in a single pass using dual charged coupled device arrays. In A4 portrait mode, it scans colour or monochrome pages at a resolution of 300 dots per inch and speed of 55 pages per minute.

A Worldwide 3-fold StrategyThe mood at Japanese IT giant, Fujitsu, is jovial. At its 30th anniversary celebrations in Singapore in August, Ahn Kyung-Soo, group chairman of Fujitsu Asia, raised a few eyebrows by jokingly saying that “we’re very poor at advertising ourselves”, when he touched on the company’s longevity in Singapore. In fact, it would be its seventieth year in business since the company was founded.

BMC Announces New Partner Strategy With FujitsuBMC Software, a leading provider of enterprise management solutions to companies, recently announced a new partner program strategy with Fujitsu. Under the proposed partner strategy, three new initiatives aimed at improving efficiency were also announced. They are: new partner demand generation capabilities, infrastructural improvements ad increased emphasis on partner training. Through them it is hoped channel contribution to the Asian Pacific region will increase from 40% to 60% by 2006. This new partner strategy with Fujitsu falls in accordance with BMC’s current channel strategies. According to Sabrina Koh, recently appointed Director (Business Partners), Southeast Asia of BMC, “BMC’s channel strategy now incorporates new partner demand generation capabilities. Our strategy of utilising channel partners will allow our products and services to reach customers through a wider channel. Partners have always played a vital role in driving sales and revenue in the Asia Pacific region. In such a diverse region, our ability to forge strong partnership is key towards expanding our market coverage, winning new customers and increasing margins.”

Fujitsu to invest US$44m in ASEANFujitsu and TDK have formed an alliance in the magnetic hard disk drive head business. The two companies will work together in the field of hard disk drive heads, and will launch a new joint venture in the Philippines. TDK is expected to take a 66% stake in the joint venture, and Fujitsu the remaining 34%.

ScanSnapFujitsu Asia recently launched its new ScanSnap Fi-5110EOX. According to the company, the scanner can digitise both sides of documents in a single pass at a speed of up to 15 ppm for single-sided documents and 30 images ppm for double-sided colour documents. It also boasts automatic detection and elimination of blank pages, even on mixed single and double-sided documents.

Fujitsu ScanSnap fi-5110EOX $899Those of you labouring under the misapprehension that all scanners take up half the desk and take half the day to scan one document: think again. The ScanSnap looks much like an A4 printer but scans documents to Adobe PDF format in seconds. It automatically recognises whether a document is colour or monochrome. Cleverer yet, it can scan documents directly into editable Word or Excel format. Another handy attribute is the facility to chew through a pile of business cards and sort the information into vCard format.

Fujitsu Primepower serversFujitsu Asia has announced the launch of five new high-end and mid-range models in its Primepower server lineup. The new lineup incorporates 1.89GHz Sparc64 V (sparc64-5) processors based on 90nm semiconductor technology. The Sparc64 V processor provides a range of built-in reliability functions including highly accurate error detection. Error Checking and Correction, and instruction retry functions that include error correction and other high-precision RAS functions. Fujitsu’s new ScanSnapFujitsu Asia has launched the new ScanSnap Fi-5110EOX, an Energy Star-compliant scanner. One of ScanSnap’s energy saving features is the automatic power shut off when its automatic document feeder (ADF) cover is closed. The ScanSnap Fi5110EOX is equipped to digitise both sides of standard and custom-sized documents in a single pass, in colour and at a speed of up to 15 pages per minute for single-sided documents and 30 images per minute for double-sided documents. The ScanSnap ADF can handle up to 50 documents continuously in normal mode.
