Every SE Server consists of several components. The SE300 contains a Server Unit on x86 basis. Each SE500 and SE700 contains a Server Unit based on /390 technology. Further components are the Management Unit and the Net Unit. Optionally up to two more Server Units on x86 basis and up to 20 Application Units can be included. These optional products make it possible to have mutual monitoring, control and administration amongst a homogenous interface.
Server Unit: The Server Unit (SU) is the heart of each SE Server and is used to run the BS2000 operating system.
Server Unit (SU /390): For the highest BS2000 monoprocessor power and overall performance with maximum scalability. The monoprocessor performance as well as the power of SU700/SU500 with multiple BS2000 CPUs has been significantly increased in comparison with its predecessors.
Server Unit (SU x86): For more resource flexibility with the latest high-end Intel standard processor technology. Under VM2000 up to 32 BS2000 guest systems can be used on one SU300. In addition it is possible to run Linux and/or Windows as Xen guest systems parallel to BS2000/VM2000 on the SU300.
The key customer benefit consists of:
Management Unit: The Management Unit (MU) with the SE Manager allows the central administration of the whole SE Server under a common interface. The monitoring, administration and operation extends to the units and the systems running on them, as well as on peripheral systems, Ethernet and FC networks. Additionally unit-wide functions like performance monitoring are available. All tasks can easily be done via the browser-based interface of the SE Manager from each workplace with connection to the SE server.
Net Unit: Connecting all units to each other and to the customer network is made possible by the Net Unit (NU). It provides high performance between SE Units and into the customer network, while ensuring a maximum security. It consists of LAN switches and implements the networks required to operate the SE server, with the help of “managed switches”. There are Units with either 24 or 48 Ports and a speed of 1- or 10 Gbit/s.
HNC: The HNC (High-speed Net Connect) is a powerful network interface unit for BS2000 systems. It is a modular system based on a high-end PRIMERGY™ system running Linux™. It supports Fiber Channel connections to server and Fast Ethernet™ and Gigabit Ethernet™ for LAN interfaces. Every SE500/SE700 Server is shipped with a HNC which is connected with the Net Unit. Further 1-3 HNCs can be configured to increase throughput and redundancy, as well as additional LAN-Ports.
Application Unit: The Application Units (AU) are high-end server based on x86 technology and run Windows- or Linux-applications. They are prepared to run standard applications and each AU is ready for integration into the SE Server. Up to 20 Application Units can be operated in a SE Server.
The key customer benefit consists of:
On basis of High-End x86-Servers, which are integrated into SE Servers to run Linux- or Windows-Applications, we offer different types of these units:
The AU25 is based on the PRIMERGY RX2530. This rack server provides high performance, expandability and energy efficiency. Therefore the PRIMERGY RX2530 is ideal for virtualization, scale-out scenarios, and small databases as well as for high performance computing thanks to the high performance of the new Intel® Xeon® processors.
The AU47 is based on the PRIMERGY RX4770. This Server is an industry-standard x86 system with four sockets, providing superior levels of performance, scalability and efficiency. This combination turns the server into the ideal platform for running a variety of customer applications. Many user-friendly functions ensure a faster and more cost- effective infrastructure management, no matter where the server is located.
The AU87 is based on the Primequest PQ2800. With up to eight Intel® Xeon® processors provided with up to 144 cores and 12TB DDR4 memory, the PRIMEQUEST 2800E2 provides unprecedented performance and memory capacity for demanding solutions. Mission critical features enable for an outstanding platform reliability with capabilities.
The DB87 is a special type of an AU87. The hardware configuration of the DB87 is fixed and customized in relation to the customer specific database application and required performance. In addition a DB Unit contains the customer specific software configuration and the required service related to preparation and maintenance of the system base for the database environment requested from the customer.
