Portugal Fujitsu B-Pad achieves PCI Compliance

October 03, 2008

Fujitsu Services, one of Europe’s leading IT services companies has announced that its B-Pad is the first Microsoft Windows all-in-one mobile device to be awarded Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance.

The B-Pad is a lightweight mobile computer offering multiple functionality, including order processing, mobile payment, stock management and self-checkout. It is widely used by a number of leading retailers including TGI Friday’s and WH Smith.

As a mobile unit, B-Pad helps retailers deliver increased store productivity and an enhanced shopping experience for customers. It is capable of managing customer transactions from product information requests, to stock availability queries, order processing and secure payment, providing a one-stop personalised solution for customers. It is also ideally placed to help retailers manage peaks and troughs in customer demand, providing a robust and highly effective queue busting solution.

PCI compliance for the B-Pad encompasses both online and offline PIN entry, making it a highly attractive payment device for retailers to use across their entire global operation.

Mark Keohane, head of self service and mobile solutions at Fujitsu Services comments: “The functionality of the B-Pad makes it an ideal device for improving and personalising customer experience. B-Pad frees staff from the counter, transforming the in-store service by enabling them to interact more closely with customers when taking orders, providing product information and processing payment. It offers an opportunity to reduce the number of fixed tills in a store, maximising trading space on the shop-floor while ensuring the speedy flow of customers through the store. B-Pad has the potential to transform the retail and hospitality industry in terms of card payment processes and transactions.”

PCI compliance is awarded by the Payment Card Industry and is a global quality standard designed to help companies processing payments to prevent credit card fraud, hacking and other security threats.

B-Pad has been awarded PCI compliance until 2014.
