Manufacturing to save energy, waste and water

The Fujitsu factory in Augsburg has set many standards in manufacturing excellence over the years, not least through efforts to save energy, reduce waste and optimize water usage, thereby reducing the overall impact on the environment. The Augsburg facility incorporates a number of functions including research & development, system board production, volume production, server/rack production and a renowned testing center. Across this facility Fujitsu has achieved substantial savings through energy and environmental management initiatives.

Numerous measures introduced since the mid-1990’s have cut the electricity required to manufacture a PC at Augsburg by more than 50 percent. For example, power consumption has been reduced by 65% through the lowering of testing times from 24 hours to less than 1 hour per system, with no reduction in quality.

Augsburg continues to set ambitious targets and currently aims for a further 6% per year in electricity consumption which equates to about 75 typical households in Germany.
