Staccato Communications and Fujitsu Announce Joint Marketing of Certified Wireless USB and UWB Products and Sales Agreement for Ripcord™ Family of UWB Products
Singapore, 28 September, 2005 — Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia Pte Ltd today announced the signing of agreement between Staccato Communications and Fujitsu Limited that will enable Fujitsu to distribute and sell Staccato’s Ripcord™ family of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) product solutions for Certified Wireless USB.
Under the terms of the non-exclusive sales agreement, Fujitsu has the ability to sell the entire family of Ripcord products, including development kits, software drivers, silicon and System-in-Package (SiP) products, through Fujitsu sales channels. Fujitsu has also retained a license to Staccato’s MAC (Media Access Controller) technology for inclusion in Fujitsu ASICs and ASSP product lines requiring Certified Wireless USB functionality. This includes Fujitsu Milbeaut™ products, which hold a large share of the worldwide digital still camera market. Both companies will jointly market Ripcord products worldwide.
Staccato's Ripcord products are single-chip, all-CMOS products fully integrated into complete Systems-in-Package (SiP) to enable sub-$10 cost per node, small form factor, low and efficient power consumption, and 480Mbps Wireless USB connectivity. Staccato SiP products are fully integrated solutions for Wireless USB applications that integrate the radio frequency transceiver, baseband, MAC, processor, memory, and I/O functionality.
“Staccato’s products are considered the ‘golden standard’ among UWB products and we are pleased to join with them to offer the Ripcord family of products and applications to our customers,” said Jiyouji Murakami, Executive Vice President of the Electronic Devices Business Unit of Fujitsu Limited.
“We are pleased to extend our long-standing partnership with Fujitsu Limited, a leader in providing communications solutions to the global marketplace. The addition of Fujitsu will be a great complement to Staccato’s own worldwide direct sales channel,” said Rick Kornfeld, Chief Executive Officer of Staccato Communications. “With over half of the Fortune Global 500 among its customer base, Fujitsu is uniquely positioned to help penetrate the growing market for products based on ultrawideband technology.”
