ZTE Corporation and Fujitsu Collaborate on WiMAX-Compliant Technology

ZTE Joins the Growing Customer Base for the Fujitsu WiMAX SoC Solution

Singapore, 22 April, 2005 — Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia Pte Ltd (FMAL), a world leader in complex system-on-chip development and pioneer in the development of WiMAX broadband wireless access semiconductor technology, and ZTE Corporation, the largest listed telecommunications systems supplier in China, today announced that ZTE is working with Fujitsu to deploy its WiMAX-certifiable equipment based on Fujitsu’s highly integrated WiMAX SoC, the MB87M3400.

The two companies have been collaborating to develop base station and subscriber station equipment that complies with the 802.16-2004 fixed WiMAX specifications. Fujitsu and ZTE will complete the full bring-up and implementation of ZTE’s WiMAX compliant systems.

As a founding and board member of the WiMAX Forum™, Fujitsu has been a leader in the industry-wide acceptance of the IEEE 802.16 and ETSI HiperMAN wireless MAN standards, which are essential for successful WiMAX deployment.

Fujitsu’s WiMAX system-on-chip is the high-performance, highly integrated MB87M3400 SoC that incorporates the embedded processor and mixed signal technology. It is the cornerstone for bringing the first wave of WiMAX-certified products to cost-effective deployment in 2005.

"Adding WiMAX SoC to the product portfolio we are already having with ZTE Corporation is marking another milestone in our relationship." said Rick Wong, Marketing Director of System LSI Products for Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia. "Being one of the leading WiMAX-compliant LSI vendor in this industry, we are optimistic that our flexible and cost-effective business model would enable both companies to collaborate closely on Fujitsu's WiMAX-compliant product and contribute positively to ZTE’s development."

“We are pleased with the relationship with Fujitsu and the support provided,” said James Jiang, president of ZiMAX Technologies. (ZiMAX is a subsidiary of ZTE Corporation, dedicated to the development of IEEE 802.16-based products.) “Our team has been involved in system design based on Fujitsu’s WiMAX SoC. This collaboration will further enhance the relationship between Fujitsu and ZTE for the promotion of the WiMAX technology globally.”
