Fujitsu to Offer Solutions that Enhances the Digital Television Experience

Components for Tomorrow's World of Convergence

Singapore, 18 March 2004 — Today at the 12th Convergence India, Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia Pte Ltd introduces its range of solutions for digital television products. These consist of SmartMPEG TM, an integrated set- top box MPEG Decoder and MB86A15, a single- package front-end solution for digital broadcasting.

For Fujitsu, a major player in providing digital television solutions, the introduction of SmartMPEGTM and MB86A15 is in line with emerging global technologies. The convergence of traditional broadcasting, information and communication technologies have become a reality prompting a range of services to emerge.

SmartMPEG™
Fujitsu, SmartMPEG (MB86H2X) addresses the need of full range of satellite, cable , terrestrial or IP set-top boxes. SmartMPEG twin TS Demultiplexer coupled with IDE interface could handle concurrent hard disk record and playback channels in two different TS streams, providing real time shift function. For example while watching a cricket match, a viewer could replay the best shot and switch back to the main game instantly.

Smarter: SmartMPEG high speed CPU which is based on ARC Tangent A4 running at 130MHz would give you full power to add interactive middleware, CA/CI, and many online applications. MPEG video and audio decoding are hardware based.

More Colourful: The user interface offers the largest differentiation vis-'a-vis competing products. SmartMPEG has five graphic plans providing ample space for creativity. State of the art true colour 24bit on screen display and flexible MPEG video zooming to create the best OSD available on a freely sizeable video.

Higher Integration: Built on 0.18um technology, this chip has the highest possible integration - including video encoder, 5- digit seven segment LED controller, SPDIF interface, internal PLL and many more functions. All these run on a unified memory system that reduces the number of SDRAM required to a single piece - 16bit or 32bit device.

MB86A15
A pioneering single package solution for digital satellite broadcasting that combines tuner, QPSK demodulator and Forward Error Correction (FEC) .It delivers excellent performance despite its small size and low power consumption, and is ideally suited for all kinds of digital satellite receivers, USB -TV Boxes.
