Manila, November 11, 2008 — Fujitsu Family Association (FFA), the user group of Fujitsu Philippines, Inc. (FPI), together with FPI employees, recently celebrated early Christmas at the GK Village in Taguig City by helping build houses for the poor through Gawad Kalinga. FFA Chairman Floro “Jun” P. San Juan, Vice President of Philippine American Life and General Insurance Company led this program together with Peter G. Tan, President and CEO of FPI.

FFA consists of various corporations from various industries worldwide. It was established internationally in 2004 with several objectives like helping members from different countries and industries strengthen and expand their network by providing opportunities for information exchange. Initially, FFA was formed to give Fujitsu users first hand information about Fujitsu’s technological plans and product roadmaps but during the FFA Annual Convention early this year, FFA decided to make a difference by “giving back” what is due to the community or “IT with a sense of responsibility,” spearheaded by Raul Santiago, III, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Fujitsu Philippines, Inc.

“In addition to the ‘sweat equity’ or the time and effort contributed by the participants, we donated a GK house in Taguig City that will provide a decent, beautiful and secure home for a very poor family in the area,” says FFA Chairman Floro “Jun” P. San Juan, Vice President of Philippine American Life and General Insurance Company

According to Peter G. Tan, President and CEO of FPI, “We are committed to serving Gawad Kalinga not only through corporate contributions through the Fujitsu Family Association, but also by volunteering our time, resources and energy. We actively support and encourage not only employee volunteerism but the involvement of our customers as well through volunteer activities. Fujitsu Philippines, Inc. Group of Companies (FPIGC) is willing to help transform the lives of these people and our community as a whole.”

FPI Clients from Bridgestone Precision, Globe Telecom, Goldilocks, and Philam join hands in contributing their time and effort to Gawad Kalinga.

Back-to-Back Sweat Equity for Gawad Kalinga by FFA Chairman Floro “Jun” P. San Juan (L) Vice President of Philippine American Life and General Insurance Company and Fujitsu Philippines, Inc. President and CEO, Peter G. Tan (R).

“We strongly encourage our employees to participate individually in community service. We give back to the community specifically to our fellowmen who are victims of typhoon and to the poorest of the poor,” according to Shigeo Tsubotani, FPI Chairman.

About Gawad Kalinga

Gawad Kalinga (GK) translated in English means to “to give care”, and it is an alternative solution to the blatant problem of poverty not just in the Philippines but in the world. GK’s vision for the Philippines is a slum-free, squatter-free nation through a simple strategy of providing land for the landless, homes for the homeless, food for the hungry and as a result providing dignity and peace for every Filipino.

What started in 1995 as a daring initiative by Couples for Christ to rehabilitate juvenile gang members and help out-of-school youth in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, then the biggest squatters’ relocation area in the Philippines, has now evolved into a movement for nation-building. Together with its partners, Gawad Kalinga is now in the process of transforming poverty stricken areas with the goal of building 700,000 homes in 7,000 in 7 years (2003-2010). To date Gawad Kalinga is in over 900 communities all over the Philippines and in other developing countries. (establish link to GK ABROAD, write-ups on GK Communities outside the Philippines).

Gawad Kalinga is more than about building houses for the poorest of the poor. Providing a decent home is just the beginning of the transformation of the people and the community. For information on how to help, visit http://www.gawadkalinga.org.
