Fujitsu Ten Corp. of the Phils: Taking the Role of being the Model Big Enterprise of the Year

Manila, December 06, 2006 — In its aim to promote productivity among suppliers and be a part of the government’s goal to be globally competitive, Fujitsu Ten Corporation of the Philippines was recently awarded as 2006 Model Big Enterprise in the well-applauded recognition rites hosted by Employers Confederation of the Philippines- Big Enterprise Small Enterprise (E-BESE) at Dusit Hotel last December 6 with the theme of “Strengthening Philippine Competitiveness through Government and Business Partnership”.

The event was graced by top management of various prominent companies and DOST Secretary Estrella Alabastro who gave inspirational message regarding the effect of program nationwide and vision of its continuity in the future.

Perhaps you may ask what this E-BESE is all about and how it was introduce to Fujitsu Ten.

E-BESE is a program that focuses on 5S and Productivity Improvement of Small Enterprises. The program’s primary objective is to assist viable Small-scale Enterprises that could benefit from 5S and Productivity Improvement Program (PIP). It is actually a government project since Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) is under provision of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and Department of Trade and Industry’s Center for Industrial Competitiveness (DTI-CIC). As prerequisite, Big Enterprises enrolled highly recommended suppliers according to requirements of E-BESE. These are suppliers which they deem necessary and will benefit most in the program. After which, coordinators of E-BESE laid down the activities through a kick-off meeting followed by series of workers’ and supervisors’ training, problem identification related to 5S and productivity, brainstorming of possible solutions, implementation, and results. These numerous activities are at no cost.

The role of Big Enterprises is to act as advisers as they somehow knew what’s most advantageous for the suppliers.

It was in the year 2005 when one of the leading global car manufacturers, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation instigated E-BESE to selected suppliers through invitation to act as Big Enterprise, and we, Fujitsu Ten along with other major invited suppliers became one of them. Hence, the Toyota Group emerged in the E-BESE circle upon involvement of these suppliers to Toyota.

The next question that may seem to rise on the aforementioned explanation of E-BESE is how essential it is in our company.

This program is vital to our company since we are helping to improve the productivity of our own suppliers in which, were classified as Small Enterprises. Any progress of our suppliers may possibly create an impact in terms of quality, cost, and delivery to the products being supplied to us, our customers, and end-users.

Last year, Fujitsu Ten created a superior impression to all participating companies through our very own tier 2, the MME Technologies. They were awarded as 2005 Model Small Enterprise, while Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. then received recognition as the Model Big Enterprise of the year.

It is true that the goal of ECOP to help improve Small Enterprises is apparent but Toyota gave a deeper perception of E-BESE for its group. Thus, Toyota has embarked on an integrated advocacy to establish improvement on productivity and competitiveness through Cluster Development Program.

Cluster Development is a program aiming to make a significant impact in terms of productivity with suppliers down to its tiers. Truly, this concept became known to the rest of E-BESE participants and organizers.

On 2006 recognition rites, base on Toyota Motor Philippines assessment, we, Fujitsu Ten were the first to reach the cluster development, and that is to make impact on the 2nd and 3rd tiers through MME technologies who were adopted as a Big Enterprise. MME Technologies facilitated the E-BESE program to its 2nd tier supplier, the Malugo Philippines. This company is responsible on supplying sticker labels being used in PCB of MME Technologies products which are being supplied to us. The importance of sticker label in PCB is to determine its part numbers, and any occurrence of mistakes from this part can be found out abruptly through the label. Thus, encompassing this cluster development made us to be this year’s Model Big Enterprise.

In the testimonial speech of our respected President, he mentioned that we, Fujitsu Ten and other accompanying bodies of Toyota Group will continually uphold the E-BESE program on 5S and Productivity Improvement with the support of DOST and DTI through ECOP and CIC in the forthcoming activities. As a matter of fact, we already started the preparation through plotting a 3-year plan of our recommended suppliers.

Also, Fujitsu Ten will continue to execute Cluster Development Program to our other suppliers aiming to cover all tiers. At present, the group is planning to formulate modules on program advancement for the benefit of companies who have finished the E-BESE requirements.

Let us remember that to obtain the through meaning of “Unity for Quality”, we should extend the program promoting productivity to our tiers because through unity, we will achieve quality!
