Fujitsu Launches PRIMEQUEST Server Line for Linux and Windows

Itanium 2-based servers offer scalability and stability for mission-critical enterprise applications

PrimeQuest

Manila, May 5, 2005 — Leading regional IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu Philippines Inc today unveiled the PRIMEQUEST™ range of servers for Itanium-based systems running Linux and Windows Server 2003 platforms. Based on the Intel® Itanium® 2 processor, the PRIMEQUEST server line combines high system scalability with data centre-class fault immunity, thus offering enterprises the flexibility of industry-standard solutions without compromising business continuity.

PRIMEQUEST servers incorporate two key technologies – System Mirror and Flexible Input/Output (FIO) – to maximize system availability in a single system. System Mirror, enabled by dual synchronous system architecture, allows memory modules and crossbar interconnects to operate in duplex mode and isolates errors without causing a system halt; while FIO allows I/O resources to be dynamically allocated based on real-time performance requirements, thus reducing maintenance downtime and avoiding disruptions to business operations.

The PRIMEQUEST server architecture also provides up to eight hardware-isolated partitions, each of which functions like a fully independent “server” within the system, for excellent fault immunity.

Ideal for business operations that require high availability, robust performance, enhanced flexibility and optimum resource usage, the PRIMEQUEST server line can be deployed in large-scale database systems, online transaction processing environments and other mission-critical enterprise applications.

“With our longstanding expertise in mainframes, Fujitsu offers unparalleled reliability for industry-standard operating systems. The PRIMEQUEST server line offers mission-critical computing on both Linux and Windows Server 2003 platforms, and is poised to deliver the high availability and low total cost of ownership that customers demand,” said Mr Felipe R. Manalang, President, Fujitsu Philippines.

The PRIMEQUEST server line is offered as part of the Fujitsu TRIOLE strategy for optimising customers’ IT infrastructures comprising servers, storage systems, networks and middleware. Based on TRIOLE, Fujitsu designs, develops and deploys highly reliable, business-critical data centres in heterogeneous environments to increase business continuity, agility and efficiency. Fujitsu will introduce TRIOLE templates that include PRIMEQUEST servers, thus enabling customers to introduce 64-bit mission-critical Linux and Windows technologies into their data centres.

PRIMEQUEST servers extend the Fujitsu server portfolio that also includes the SPARC64® V processor-based PRIMEPOWER™ server line running Solaris, as well as the PRIMERGY® industry standard servers.

The PRIMEQUEST server line is available from end of June 2005. Visit http://ph.fujitsu.com for more details.
