WeServ Participates in SODEC 2003 Exhibit in Tokyo
Manila, July 7, 2003 — Fujitsu Philippines, Inc. (FPI) through its software services subsidiary, WeServ Systems International, Inc., will participate as one of the nine top Philippine and Japanese IT company-exhibitors in the 12th Software Development Expo and Conference (SODEC) 2003, joining over 120 international exhibitors expected to converge at the Tokyo Big Sight on July 9 to 11, 2003.
From its beginnings in 1975 as a hardware vendor selling Fujitsu computer products in the Philippines, FPI evolved into the Philippines' largest and most diversified technology service company, with over 1,000 full-time IT professionals and several hundred temporary contractors.
In 1993, it created WeServ to execute its service export strategy. With an ISO 9001 certification and offices in the US, United Kingdom, and Japan, the company is one of the first Filipino firms to raise the Philippine flag overseas.
Its broad service base ranges from design and consultancy to customized support services for business applications in the manufacturing, banking, retail, telecommunications, transportation, and government industries. In addition to traditional classical technology architectures, WeServ specializes in leading-edge development platforms, notably Java (J2EE) and .NET architecture, Web-Services, and Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) technologies, non-proprietary operating systems (Microsoft and Unix variants, including Linux), and mobile application platforms.
The Philippine participation in SODEC 2003 is organized by the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), in coordination with the Board of Investments (BOI) and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Tokyo (PTIC).
SODEC is the country's largest software development exhibition, attracting exhibitors and top-level industry leaders from some of the biggest IT and IT-enabled companies from the US, Europe, and Asia. It is also recognized as a major international trade exhibition among software development engineers and designers in the industry.
A Business Seminar and Country Presentation is also scheduled on July 9, at 3:30 to 4:30 PM at Room 3, Second Floor, East Exhibition Hall 5 of the Tokyo Big Sight, for companies interested in exploring the advantages of offshore outsourcing of Philippine IT services and software solutions. Philippine Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Gregory L. Domingo shall conduct the presentation.
The Philippines showcased its IT and IT-enabled services in the e-Services Exhibition and Interactive Business Forum organized by CITEM in Tokyo December of last year. The event, which timed with Philippine President Gloria Arroyo's state visit, was the Philippines' first solo IT exhibition in Japan.
The Philippines is emerging as an important offshore outsourcing services provider, exporting approximately $1-billion in information technology services generated from some 290, 000 skilled professionals.
The country is fast gaining worldwide recognition as a top source of quality IT services, particularly in animation, back office operations, contact centers, medical and legal transcription, and software development and application outsourcing. Filipino knowledge workers have worked behind the scenes for many years, providing the technological backbone for some of the biggest corporations worldwide.
