Pocket LOOX 610

VR-Zone 25 Feb 2004

When the Pocket LOOX 600 came onto the market, response was mixed - it was undoubtedly feature-packed, but had more than a few flaws. Fujitsu, one of the few responsive manufacturers, listened, and since the launch last November, its heir - the Pocket LOOX 610 - has been lauded by critics and users alike.

Pocket LOOX 610 is a powerful handheld, based on Microsoft® Windows Mobile™ 2003 software for Pocket PC, aimed at business professionals who want the features of a desktop right in their hands. Harnessing the leading-edge performance and low-power technology of the Intel® XScale™ PXA 255 Processor, coupled with integrated Bluetooth™, optional integrated WLAN, and optional GSM / GPRS Compact Flash cards, this small, lightweight handheld is a must-have for the mobile professional. Using a hot spot, one can connect to a home or corporate network, and synchronise calendar, contacts, mail, et cetera. All these plus a brilliant top-of-the-range transreflective colour screen, and one gets a pocket office perfect for those who are frequently out and about!

In this review, the Pocket LOOX 610's (thereafter known simply as LOOX 610) form factor will be compared to the Palm Zire 71 and the Nokia 8310, because these two are highly mobile tech-toys. The LOOX 610's operating system is Window's Pocket PC, and so its hardware performance will be stacked against top-range Pocket PCs by other manufacturers.

VR-Zone would like to use this platform to express our thanks to Fujitsu for loaning us the LOOX 610 to review.
