Sankyo Seiki

With a planned investment of over Php 6.12 billion, Sankyo Seiki (Philippines) Manufacturing Corporation set-up its modern plant inside the industrialized and yet scenic environment of Subic Bay Freeport in Olongapo City.

Sankyo Seiki is a leading manufacturer of 3-inch and 2.5-inch Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motor (FDB motor) used in PC's, laptop and server. The huge investment win is a fruit of the current government initiative to lure foreign businesses to set-up their shops in the Philippines.

The current plant, which is located within a 6.1-hectare property of sprawling greens inside the Freeport, acts as a second home to the current manpower complement of 200 employees. But Mr. Makoto Kurata, Sankyo Philippines' President, hastened to add "We plan to expand the current count to 3,500 employees maybe by October or December of 2002."

The Subic facilities will not only produce FDB motors for the global market but it will also have the capability for machine design and making that will snug appropriately to the corporate strategy of Sankyo worldwide.

Management Information System

In managing this state-of-the-art facility that uses vast array of microscopes to produce their products, Sankyo has chosen to implement SAP-R3. The ERP acts as the heart of the system. Mission-critical and front-end applications are written around it to optimize the use of information for day-to-day operations and for strategic decisions.

Applications will be written to aid in the execution of its business activities like sales, purchasing, accounting, production, and inventory management.

The ERP and the mission-critical applications that are written, as production swings into 100% capacity, run on Fujitsu hardware, specifically the Fujitsu Intel-based servers called Fujitsu Primergy in a rack-mount configuration.

Fujitsu Technology Solution

On the onset, Fujitsu Philippines, Inc. responded by offering to provide the technology platform that runs all the business applications of Sankyo, from the ERP box that runs the powerful SAP-R3 up to the workstations that runs MS-Office in Windows 2000 used in the administrative offices. Moreover, FPI opted to offer the flat LCD monitor to complement the tech-savvy ambiance that the new facility suggests.

FPI also provided and implemented the appropriate network infrastructure (structured cabling, from Extreme Networks, routers from Cisco, and switches and hubs from 3COM) that wired the three separate buildings of Sankyo into one highly manageable network.

All of these were offered to complement Sankyo's need for highly reliable and scalable technology platform and also to complement the tech-savvy characteristic that the company facility inadvertently suggests.

Complementary Service Infrastructure

With Sankyo's acquisition of the Fujitsu hardware, it also availed the 7x24 service support that is delivered by FPI's SBMA branch. This support service infrastructure ensures proper coverage, escalation, and resolution of all issues in relation to all the acquired equipment. A 24x7 Call Center facility is also available for Sankyo to serve as the single-point-of-contact for all escalations and its appropriate resolutions.

All of these services, to a degree, come with all the boxes that FPI offers to ensure customer satisfaction. But above all, the service infrastructure ensures that all data and communication systems that support Sankyo's manufacture of its leading and world-class products - the 3-inch and 2.5-inch FDB motor - will always be up and running.
