Fujitsu Philippines implements world-class systems and services for Honda Parts

HPMC

Established six years ago in April 1994, Honda Parts Manufacturing Corporation (HPMC) a wholly owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Company Ltd. in Japan, is keeping its eyes on technology to help the company move as fast its global markets.

With this vision in mind, HPMC chose Fujitsu servers and workstations, including a comprehensive Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution as base platform to run its mission-critical operations.

HPMC signed up with FPI to supply the company with a Fujitsu Primergy G885ix with Pentium III 750 MHz (dual processor); 6 units of Fujitsu DESKPOWER 5000 desktop PC's; two units of Fujitsu LifeBook E380; and two units of Fujitsu LifeBook C4230. The Fujitsu Primergy G885ix will run Fujitsu's GLOVIA v5.0, a system of integrated software solutions for managing manufacturing and service business processes.

Reynaldo B. Mendoza, Manager of Business Management Department at HPMC based in Laguna Technopark-Phase II in BiƱan, Laguna, says Honda Parts basically needed the most accurate and updated management information taken from different operating units. "We think that by computerizing the operating units, we will get the information we need by pulling them out from the system."

Requirements

HPMC is trying to be at par to what is being implemented in Honda Japan. "We want to start slow but grow fast later on. We are looking at our banks and suppliers to electronically communicate with us and exchange information," says Mendoza.

He also says that HPMC had a project before that involved direct business with Honda America. One of the company's problems was the lack of systems to answer the needs of Honda America, which has an online ordering system. "The only system computerized in HPMC is Accounting GL system that was very limited. We want a paperless transaction."

For global competitiveness, HPMC is also trying to speed up paperwork and its production controls - focusing mainly on quality, costs, delivery and efficiency or QCDE, Honda Parts' production principles.
Solution

HPMC chose FPI as its preferred supplier on February 2000. The following are the Glovia applications that are implemented at HPMC:

  • The Product and Services application that consists of engineering and costing modules;
  • The Procurement application that eliminates HPMC's manual preparation of purchase order and material order receipts;
  • The materials management application that makes planning less tedious;
  • The detail capacity planning (DCP) module that aids in prioritizing production schedules;
  • The integration of the Sales Order module with Billing and Accounts Receivable modules, which eliminates the manual recording of sales transactions and preparation of sales invoices and customer statement of accounts;
  • The financial application that eliminates most of HPMC's manual accounting process;
  • The Impromptu powerful and user-friendly report generator created by COGNOS that accesses and generates reports from HONDA 's database to generate ad-hoc management reports; and,
  • Warranty service to their PC's, notebooks, and servers with cabling work for additional terminals.

Partnership

Shimpei Q. Galo, Sales and Marketing Manager, says, "Since last year, we've been trying to look for a provider that would meet our requirements and then our budget. FPI's systems and services are perfectly suitable for us. As far as the after-sales support is concerned, the services such as the installation of the systems were done professionally."

Mendoza adds, "FPI has provided us with all-out and full force support. Moreover, the HPMC project participants relate well with the FPI staff." He expects FPI to continue providing the company with engineers who are capable and knowledgeable.

He says HPMC is also looking forward to having less waiting hours, and upgrading of its Fujitsu systems and information on the latest technology, aside from FPI's maintenance, installation, education and training, and fast troubleshooting.

"FPI's products and services greatly help us in providing information. In the next 2001, as we are expecting to receive additional business involving many items," Mendoza says. "The Glovia system, when it goes on a live run this year, answers the issues and needs for keeping track of inventory, sales, and organizational structures. And with FPI's technology services, we don't have to keep track of the paper trail as we do coordination and online information exchange among departments."

Pilot Site

Galo stresses that HPMC is the pilot site to use the Glovia system in the Honda Group of Companies in the Philippines, which include Honda Cars and Honda Philippines.

"We need more time to analyze our work and data, and not be bogged down by manual gathering of data, which is very time-consuming. Through implementing a reliable system and getting the quality service from FPI, we will help our employees grow professionally and more fulfilled in their careers," Mendoza claims.
