Fujitsu TeamPOS4000 and Softwear/POS: A specialized retail solution for specialty retail stores

During the development of Fujitsu's current family of Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, there were three major design objectives: elegance, small size, and functionality. Of course, these three factors had to be met without compromising cost-effectiveness.

Elegance meant an aesthetically pleasing design that would not detract from a store's atmosphere. A small size dictated a small footprint, to make the most effective use of limited available sales area space. Functionality meant being able to cope with the ever-increasing demands of today's retail business environment.

Fujitsu Philippines Inc. sells and supports the TeamPOS4000 platform for the various sectors of the retail industry. For specialty stores, Fujitsu Philippines has bundled a POS software application called Softwear/POS, which was originally developed by a Canadian partner of Fujitsu. Here are some of the contented users of Fujitsu's TeamPOS4000 with Softwear/POS.

Chicco's Boutique, Mandaluyong City

In October 1998, Q-T-Py's Trading Corporation, local franchisee of Europlay products and exclusive distributor of Chicco's brand of children's clothing from France, purchased a TeamPOS 4000 terminal including the Softwear/POS retail application.

Chicco's Boutique is located at the third level of SM Megamall building A in Mandaluyong City. The boutique's owner, Pamela Co-Tan, finds the company's relationship with FPI healthy and had recommended the Fujitsu POS solution to her friends. Q-T-Py appreciated the additional help extended to them by FPI while in the process of choosing the POS brand. FPI has provided them tips on what's new in the industry and how to set up a new store among others. This kind of assistance really set FPI apart from the other vendors.

After the sale, FPI even helped Q-T-Py process its BIR permit and meet SM Megamall tenant requirements. "This confirms the company's decision that it bought the right product from the right vendor," says Tan.

Lucky Educational Supply's Dominic Tan, operations manager, also echoes a similar satisfaction from FPI. He reiterates that FPI truly understands the company's concerns, adding that problems are attended when his complaints are escalated.

The specialty store based in Legazpi City, focusing mainly as a bookstore offering novelty items, started its business using Fujitsu ECR's and was satisfied with its performance. It considered FPI as a stable company offering not only high-quality products but also competitive edge, with FPI being an added value to the store.

Tan adds that FPI offers reliable hardware, cost-effective systems, flexible terms and good management support, which Lucky values most from all its suppliers. Aside from Legazpi City, Lucky has an outlet in Sorsogon and will soon open a branch in BookStreet Sentry in Camarines Sur.

Warner Bros. Studio Stores in Metro Manila

Another happy customer is into selling Warner Bros. and Looney Tunes personal, home, and office specialty items. The Warner Bros. Studio Stores in Glorietta, Alabang, and Robinson's Galleria, including two small kiosks in Ermita and Glorietta turned to FPI to automate its interbranch stock transfer application.

The store wanted a reliable partner to replace its existing vendor. It chose FPI in March 1999 to install the TeamPOS4000 terminals and Softwear/POS application in its outlets. And so far, Warner Bros. is happy with FPI's support structure.

In addition, the specialty store is impressed with the system's customer profiling, promo capabilities and level table in the inventory modules, including remote communication capability and file utilities. These were also the advantage points of FPI against other vendors during the evaluation stage.

Stock Lot Outlet, Bacolod City

Stock Lot Outlet is based in Bacood City and sells various imported garments and accesories.

One specialty store, which carries various kinds of imported garments and accessories, is planning to expand its business in the future. And with this expansion in mind, Stock Lot Outlet started implementing a reliable POS solution from Fujitsu in October 1999.

"We decided to go for the Fujitsu brand because of FPI's assistance during the process of establishing our retail business," says Cora Gutierrez, Stock Lot's general manager. "FPI gave recommendations and advice on how to set up the store. We felt the support of FPI during the critical days of the implementation, particularly in training the users."

Gutierrez further adds that the TeamPOS solution enables the store to track its sales and inventory in a more convenient and reliable way since real-time information are processed for decision-making and for thorough analysis of the business operation.

"Definitely, we will recommend the system to our colleagues for we can testify that the system is a great help in achieving our objectives for the store," she stresses.
