Fujitsu PCs offer quality innovation and excellent support to Far East Bank

For Far East Bank and Trust Co., one of the leading banking institutions in the country, the role of PC's in the overall IT strategy of the bank has become more strategic than just running the usual office productivity applications.
The upcoming and exciting applications such as electronic commerce, Internet banking, and mobile banking can be run in powerful PC's, especially in the application server and client side, claims Dychioco. "However, we see that most future applications will be developed in PC platforms." "Of course, the mainframe will still contain legacy applications and the customer account master files, so it will continue to serve as the backend to most applications,"says Dionisio T. Dychioco III, Vice President of Information Technology Group at Far East Bank.
Fujitsu Philippines offered a reliable and high-quality product to suit their requirements in developing and running these latest applications to meet the pressures of a faster-paced banking industry.More than 700 units of Fujitsu Deskpower PCs were installed at the bank's different groups, winning several bids over popular brands likeIBM and Acer. The partnership started in 1997, installing the units over to different locations to be used as teller terminals and internal office automation tools.
The users are many. The Retail Banking Group, for instance, used the PC's as teller terminals for the Branch Pro Tellering System installed nationwide from Subic, Cebu, Cavite, to Cabuyao and in Metro Manila such as Sucat, Ortigas, Binondo, West Avenue, Caloocan, and Arranque.
The International Office Processing Center (IOPC) and the International Banking Group, Remittance Section use the Fujitsu Deskpower PC's for DOS and Windows-based applications in its business centers located in the branches. At the Far East Bank Center in Makati, Fujitsu Deskpower PC's can be found serving as office automation tools in the Comptrollership Office; Security Office; FEB Leasing & Finance Corporation; Information Technology Group; Trust Banking Group; Human Resources Division; Systems Development; International Banking Group; Corporate Banking Group; and, Credit Management Services Group.
"Price-performance and good support services gave us a great advantage over our tough competitors in the IT business," says Jimmy Ching, marketing director at Volume Products Division at FPI. "Far East Bank values reliable support as an important ingredient to a good partnership. Fujitsu remains committed to superior after-sales service, which is running an extra mile just to provide the utmost customer care we can offer to our valued clients. This, we believe is a plus factor and other vendors fail in comparison."
Ching adds that another major decision factor of Far East Bank in choosing Fujitsu PC's was that Fujitsu passed the bank's strict accreditation process, which includes hardware and software tests, i.e., running the unit using current bank application. Another factor is the price competitiveness of Fujitsu PC's. "Moreover, Far East Bank describes long-term support as an important ingredient to good partnership. Counting too Fujitsu's close coordination with the bank's helpdesk is crucial in delivering quality support for Fujitsu PC's," he stresses.
Albert B. Mabutas, head of workstation development and support at Far East Bank comments: "Fujitsu is still one of our three major desktop PC suppliers. They have proven themselves in the past to be responsive to any problems that crop up."
"Fujitsu's support is characterized by its willingness and promptness to solve any problems or issues regarding PC's. As an example, when we had a printing problem under 3270 emulation which was traced to the BIOS, Fujitsu escalated the problem to its Singapore office, where a new BIOS was promptly developed. Not only that, Fujitsu even went to the extent of going to our remote branches to update affected BIOS chips," he adds.
Increased opportunities
For Fujitsu, it believes increased opportunities abound in sharing growth through a winning partnership. High-quality and reliability Deskpower PC's with strong support for the bank's office automation and major operational activities are at the heart of the Fujitsu-Far East Bank relationship.
A good partnership entails having long-term and reliable support from a trusted IT vendor and the bank finds this important ingredient from Fujitsu. "They will still be the choice platform supplier for our tellering and front-end workstations at the Far East Bank Center and in other branches. Other possible uses will be mostly servers such as for remote access, storing images, serving applications, for gateways, routers, firewalls, security, backup and monitoring," Mabutas claims. "Fujitsu has shown their strong commitment to after-sales service and superior customer care," Ching adds. "We are confident that Fujitsu products such as the Deskpower PC's will help enable our customer to redefine the business and economic relations in the financial markets that the bank serves."
Far East Bank was born out of a vision--to become an institution that would outlive its founders and service a national economy on the verge of maturation. Fujitsu is at hand to readily commit in offering top-of-the-line hardware and innovative customer care built to deliver the breadth of professional service and support needed to assist a respected institution like Far East Bank.
