EasyCall Communications Philippines, Inc.
EasyCall taps WeSolv to deploy high-density Internet Network

In its bid to become a major Internet Service Provider in the country, EasyCall Communications Philippines, Inc. signs up with WeSolv Open Computing, Inc., the networking and communications subsidiary of Fujitsu Philippines, Inc., to implement a high-speed, high-density dial access network infrastructure for its Internet business.
Using Cisco AccessPath-TS3 TM carrier-class integrated dial access system to provide reliable, high-speed dial-up access to its Internet and data services network, EasyCall will be able to deliver unique dial-in service offerings.
Initially configured at 2,640 ports for Internet access with a plan to provide New World services like roaming virtual private network (VPN) services, EasyCall's Internet service will enable multinational corporate customers to provide secure, cost-effective intranet access for their mobile and telecommuting employees and remote branch offices.
Internet Requirements
EasyCall acknowledged that in order to be more competitive, it has to provide New World services aside from its traditional messaging services. "It's important to think at a higher level: solution objectives that are the sum of several hardware and software components, as EasyCall will jump into Internet business," says Modesto N. Cervantes, EasyCall President.
"We were looking at a high-quality network to help us in offering Internet and business solutions. The ultimate plan is to provide business-to-business and business-to-customer solutions to the corporate market like web-based business solutions (ordering, reservations, co-location, e-customer relations management) network management solutions, state of the art data centers and other connectivity solutions. We are re-engineering and reinventing ourselves, moving from a paging company into an Internet company. We are the number 1 paging company. Give us time, maybe in two years, we will be the Internet of Choice," he stresses.
As Internet Service Provider, EasyCall requires a network infrastructure that provides high-port density, high-performance, redundant and resilient, scalable, and simple to manage infrastructure. In addition, EasyCall requires a partner that has a proven track record in building Internet infrastructure and reliable support.
Network Solution
WeSolv positioned Cisco's AccessPath carrier-class access system, a proven carrier-class equipment for high-density universal access network for EasyCall's network requirements. AccessPath integrates access servers, backbone routers, a switching engine, a system controller and management software, giving EasyCall an easy-to-manage solution that accommodates E1 lines.
As dial-in demands increase, the AccessPath system can scale capacity quickly and easily via the system's stacking capability. In addition, the data center will be consolidated using Cisco Catalyst 6500 series switching systems, with Cisco 7200VXR as gateway router. Edgardo T. Abalos, EasyCall's General Manager, claims that the company expects a high-quality service with 7 x 24 x 365 availability. The network is scheduled to be up and running by July 2000.
WeSolv Partnership
Cervantes points out that aside from Cisco Systems being a well-known technology provider worldwide, the company has seen the capability of WeSolv in terms of supporting the equipment.
"Moreover, WeSolv has the proven track record in building network infrastructure for Internet Service Providers," adds Abalos. "With more than 60 Communications and Network Engineers and a large installed base, WeSolv is one of the largest Cisco Systems Partners in the region."
He adds, "At EasyCall, we recognized the need to develop a leading-edge network infrastructure early, to better serve our customers and to reduce operating expenses so that we could compete more effectively going forward. Cisco and WeSolv are ideal business partners for us, and Cisco's networking product quality and reliability coupled with WeSolv's after-sales support have been outstanding."
Felipe R. Manalang, President of WeSolv, comments "We welcome this milestone partnership with EasyCall. We are happy to have EasyCall in our rapidly expanding list of customers who have built their online and corporate infrastructure using WeSolv engineering services with Cisco products. This is proof that our value is not solely in the products that we supply, but more in our ability to design, implement and maintain solutions that meet the business needs of our customers."
Peter Tan, EVP and general manager of WeSolv adds: "We are pleased to be working with EasyCall to offer Cisco's next-generation high-density dial access network solution. This solution would meet EasyCall's demands for high-bandwidth Internet applications and dynamic and decentralized business environment with vastly improved connectivity. This reinforces WeSolv's position as Cisco's preferred partner for large and complex network implementations."
