WeSolv to implement country's first DSL network for Century Properties

Century Properties Management Inc. (CPMI)

WeSolv Open Computing, Inc., a networking and communications subsidiary of Fujitsu Philippines, Inc., ties up with Century Properties Management Inc. (CPMI), the commercial and residential management services subsidiary of Century Properties Group. WeSolv will use DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology to provide broadband network access to the occupants of CPMI properties.

This is the first commercial DSL implementation in the country, and will be used for broadband services such as Internet access, phone services, as well as other application services like e-mail and file transfers. The solution is based on high-end DSL routers and switches from Internetworking giant, Cisco Systems, Inc.

CPMI's Communication Management Services (CMS) plans to provide a New World service to their tenants. It chose DSL as a viable solution on a Multi-Tenant Dwelling Unit environment. The required solution should be able to capture data usage per user and be able to integrate the information to the ISP billing system. The hub will be located at the Pacific Star Building and initial network configuration will provide five buildings with DSL service with about 50 subscribers per building. Part of the requirements should allow the system to be upgraded to 200 users in the future.

"Our strategies are centered around our goal of providing a better working environment for property tenants, particularly those focused on the commercial centers, where a lot of them are beginning to emerge from their cocoons right now," says Charles Romig, CPMI President. "They have realized the potential of connectivity, of what's happening on the Internet and of creating a Web presence, and also of having products that are meaningful for them in terms of connectivity of IT and communications content products. So we believe that the Philippines is ready for broadband, richer content environments."

Romig explains that the initial idea is to create a better working environment with more tools at hand for an office scenario. "We envisioned creating a content portal and hopefully delivering some e-commerce related products, also to our internal network."

CPMI plans to offer its property occupants video streaming, distance learning, video conferencing, and moving of large FTP type files. Romig also sees companies that are data reach in terms of their products or their usage of the products to do a lot of transferring files and products internationally.

When asked why CPMI chose WeSolv to install and implement CPMI's DSL facility, Romig adds, "WeSolv has done an excellent job in terms of the technical strengths required to promote the DSL although it is fairly new in the Philippines. We also looked into the caliber of the technical and managerial people within WeSolv. We expect to sit down with WeSolv to talk about the next phase of the order. We will be working with WeSolv a lot more about generating the DSL products, the equipment and solutions that go with it."

He also stresses that Cisco has a full range of products, offering the potential of a broader base. "We believe Cisco has a commitment to DSL product line that will assure us of continuing upgrades and hopefully reductions in prices as we develop a more mass based deployment for DSL."

"This is another milestone for WeSolv in the converging fields of networking and communications since CPMI will be the first commercial DSL site in the country today," Peter Tan, EVP and GM of WeSolv. "WeSolv has always been dedicated to offering and supporting future-proof products such as the DSL products from Cisco that provide broadband connectivity for businesses and a cost-effective advantage to allow companies to implement e-commerce and Internet/Intranet applications."
