Warranty Information

Warranty service is available for products listed below which fail during their stated warranty period and the failure is due to Fujitsu defective materials and/or workmanship and not subject to the warranty exclusions.

Warranty claims by distributors and dealers of Fujitsu

If you are a distributor or dealer who has an active account facility for the supply of a product listed below from Fujitsu, or you have purchased the product directly from Fujitsu (both referred to below as the “customer”), please follow the procedures outlined below. These include, Limited Warranty, Warranty Coverage, Warranty Exclusions, Returns Policy and Packaging Policy. Please read the information listed below.

Other requests for warranty service

If you are not a customer of Fujitsu, for warranty claims on the products listed below, please contact the reseller who sold the product to you. They can organise to have your product sent to us under our warranty program procedures.

As the seller of the product to you, your reseller should be the point of contact for determining the nature and scope of the warranty provided with the product and for resolving warranty issues. The nature and period of the warranty offered by the reseller may vary according to whether you are acquiring the product as a discrete item or as part of an assembled system.

However, if your reseller is no longer trading, please contact Fujitsu Warranty Claims on +61 (02) 9776 4573 or email fujitsu.direct@au.fujitsu.com. Fujitsu will refer you to another reseller of Fujitsu's choice to handle your warranty claim. If it is not practical for Fujitsu to refer you to another reseller Fujitsu will decide if the product is eligible for warranty service under Fujitsu's warranty program procedures. For this purpose, the starting date of the applicable warranty period for the product will be taken to be:

  1. the date Fujitsu shipped the product to its authorised dealer or distributor where Fujitsu is given sufficient information to identify this date; or, otherwise,
  2. the date of manufacture of the product based on the serial number of the product

When returning the product for warranty service to Fujitsu or to its distributors, dealers or resellers, please familiarise yourself with and adhere to the Limited warranty, Warranty exclusions, Returns policy and Packaging policy, otherwise your warranty claim may be invalidated. The Returns Policy below explains the procedure and requirements for returning the product and requesting warranty service. Please note that you are responsible for ensuring that all data or software has been saved or backed up and Fujitsu shall not be liable in any way for any damage to or loss of such data or software installed in the product.

Warranty coverage

The warranty covers only defects in materials and/or workmanship, labour and the cost of parts for the repair or replacement of the product at Fujitsu's sole option. The warranty term begins on the date of shipment to Fujitsu's distributor or dealer and continues for the published warranty period. Warranty coverage is limited to the original product and no further warranty coverage is available after the end of the warranty term of the original product.

To make a warranty claim against Fujitsu, the customer must have purchased the product from Fujitsu in Australia/New Zealand (this restriction does not apply to products purchased under Fujitsu Limited Global Account customer contracts). If you purchased the product outside Australia/New Zealand, please contact your reseller or nearest Fujitsu division in the country of purchase.

To obtain warranty service for the product, you must obtain, complete and forward to Fujitsu a Return Authority Request Form. The Return Material Authorisation (RMA) Request Form is situated at the end of the returns policy (see below). Fujitsu will acknowledge your warranty claim prior to you returning the non-conforming product for warranty service.

The acknowledgment will explain where the product must be returned for warranty service.

The customer shall be responsible for saving or backing up any data contained on the disk product being returned to Fujitsu for in-warranty or out-of-warranty repairs or service.

Fujitsu shall have no responsibility for any such data and shall have no liability arising out of any damage to or loss of such data while the disk product is in its possession.

Where applicable, Fujitsu, at its own cost, will transport the replacement product to the customer. The replacement product will be warranted for the remainder of the warranty period of the original product being replaced.

The limited warranty provided by Fujitsu to the customer is not assignable or transferable.

Fujitsu may, at its sole option, modify this limited warranty at any time and from time to time.

Fujitsu reserves the right to treat any warranty claim as invalid if the product does not comply with the warranty conditions in circumstances including, but not limited to, where the product has been abused, damaged, opened for any reason or has been tampered with in any way that affects its normal functioning.

This warranty does not affect the customer's statutory rights as a consumer.

The terms and conditions of this warranty that exclude or limit Fujitsu's liability will apply to the full extent permitted by law. Provisions of the Trade Practices Act, 1974 (as amended) and other statutes from time to time in force in Australia may imply warranties or conditions or impose obligations upon Fujitsu, which cannot be excluded or modified. This warranty must be read and interpreted subject to any such statutory provisions. If any such statutory provisions apply, then to the extent permitted by law, Fujitsu's liability for breach of those statutory provisions will be limited at its option to the repair or replacement product(s), as contained in this warranty and its associated conditions. (Information about the Trade Practices Act can be obtained from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.)

Warranty exclusions

Upon receipt of the product(s), Fujitsu, its distributors or dealers as the case may be, will use the following criteria in determining warranty eligibility. If the product exhibits any of the following exclusions, the product will be void of warranty and may result in the product being returned to customer freight collect:

  • Received product is not as per Fujitsu returns and packaging policy
  • Evidence of environmental damage (corrosion or staining)
  • Defects or damage arising from mishandling during transportation
  • Defects from normal wear and tear
  • Defects from using the product other than as recommended in Fujitsu's documentation
  • Defacing the product or removal of manufacturer labels
  • Damage during installation or removal, even if accidental
  • Abuse, unreasonable use, mistreatment or neglect
  • The use of any non-Fujitsu parts
  • Service or modification by anybody not authorised by Fujitsu or its appointed representative
  • Maintenance of any attachments or associated equipment or components which are not supplied by Fujitsu.
  • Any electrical or other environmental work external to the product Any software products on your system, whether or not the software product was included with or preinstalled on your system. You can find the warranty statements for these software products in the corresponding software product license agreement
  • Product that Fujitsu determines to have been previously rejected, stolen or scrapped
  • Product damaged by lightning, power surges or other natural phenomenon

Fujitsu is not responsible for data transfer or recovery as part of the warranty process. Any replacement unit shipped to a customer will be a bare Fujitsu product with no operating system installed.

In the unlikely event the product fails due to defective materials and/or workmanship, and you consider the product to have a valid warranty claim, contact the reseller where you purchased the product to obtain your warranty service.

Fujitsu does not provide warranty on products which were not originally supplied by Fujitsu or its authorised dealers or distributors eg. products which have been acquired direct from overseas or from resellers who have imported products for sale in Australia or New Zealand independently of Fujitsu. In such cases please contact the supplier of the product for warranty service offered by the supplier.

Returns policy

Before proceeding with a hard disk warranty claim please download this Fujitsu disk drive diagnostic software:

IDE FA TOOLS or SCSI FA TOOLS

These diagnostic tools will determine the exact type of failure, if any exist, with your disk drive product. (Note: Use of these diagnostic tools is not required to obtain warranty service). These utilities work on Fujitsu IDE and SCSI drives only. If used with any other brand disk product, they may render that disk product unusable. Fujitsu accepts no responsibility for the improper use of the diagnostic software, IDE FATOOLS or SCSI FATOOLS.

When requesting warranty service, you will be required to complete a Return Material Authorisation (RMA) Request Form and submit your details and that of your product on forms supplied to you. These forms can be downloaded from this page (please see below).

Fujitsu appreciates your cooperation in providing this information. We request the following information in order to establish the eligibility of your warranty claim. Failure to supply the requested information may result in delays or voiding your warranty claim.

  • Your name
  • Your return address (Note: Street address only, as all disk and Fujitsu optical products are dispatched via courier)
  • Your telephone and fax numbers as well as an email address if available/applicable
  • The product model number
  • The product part number
  • The product serial number
  • Manufacture date of the product and proof of purchase documentation
  • Fault description or fault code as per disk diagnostic tool, if applicable

Once your warranty claim is validated Fujitsu will issue a completed Return Authority (RA) including RA number or Warranty Acknowledgment (WA) document by fax or post.

Note

If you receive an RA number, it will be valid for one (1) month from date of issue. Please ensure you return the product to Fujitsu within this period as receipts outside this period will make the warranty application invalid

If a returned product is in breach of any of the published policies, the warranty claim will be invalidated. For such cases, Fujitsu will provide notice to the customer within 14 days of receipt of return

The customer will be required to collect, at their own expense, the product within 14 days of any given notice of invalidation, and then, subject to correction of the cause of invalidation, may reapply for a new warranty claim

If collection of the product(s) which resulted in an invalidated product warranty claim is not effected within 14 days of the given notice, the product will be forfeited. Fujitsu will proceed to dispose of the product in a commercially safe manner.

Packaging policy

The Fujitsu product consists of delicate mechanisms employing very fine engineering tolerances and electrically sensitive devices that can easily be damaged, hence due care is required during normal installation or removal as well as during transportation.

To safeguard against any damage that may unnecessarily invalidate your warranty claim while the product is in transit for warranty service, it is important that you adhere to the following instructions when returning the product directly to Fujitsu:

  • All foreign labels or stickers must be removed from the product. Products with foreign labels will be rejected (eg reseller warranty stickers or other non-Fujitsu labels, etc)
  • All mounting attachments must be removed before the product is returned. If fitted, they will not be returned
  • Fujitsu initially supplied the hard disk and optical product in an anti-static bag to safeguard against electrostatic damage; please place each product in an anti-static bag when returning faulty product
  • Please include with the product copies of the Fujitsu-supplied RA sheet and Return Authorisation Request Form
  • To obtain your full warranty entitlement, also include copies of commercial proof of purchase, otherwise the product manufacture date will be used to work out your warranty entitlement
  • All products should be returned in their original shipping carton. If original shipping carton is no longer available, please use a corrugated cardboard carton having a minimum burst rate of 200PSI
  • Fujitsu does not sell packaging separate from products and does not authorise nor recommend any specific third party vendor's packaging or service
  • When the original carton is not available, the preferred method is the use of foam inserts to enclose the product completely on all surfaces with 2in or 5cm foam per surface
  • If foam inserts are not available, it is acceptable to use bubble wrap. Several layers of bubble wrap may have to be used to build up a minimum of 2in or 5cm wraps per surface
  • The use of 'Jiffy' or padded postal bags, 'peanut', paper or paper shred packing filler material is strictly prohibited, as these will not support, stabilise or provide protection to the product while in transit and will invalidate the warranty claim
  • The product must be adequately supported on all sides and not placed loosely inside the carton
  • Use one carton per RA
  • The RA number must be clearly marked on the outside of the shipping carton
  • Courier, postal or any personally delivered product that does not conform to this packaging policy will be rejected

Your co-operation in these matters will enable Fujitsu to reduce the turn-around time for your warranty claim and will also provide Fujitsu with better and more reliable failure analysis of the product, resulting in higher quality products and superior product support.

When returning the product for warranty service to Fujitsu or to its distributors, dealers or resellers, please familiarise yourself with and adhere to the Limited Warranty, Warranty Exclusions, Returns and Packaging Policy, otherwise your warranty claim may be invalidated.
