GoDaaS – Government Desktop as a Service

The User Centric Managed Desktop

Fujitsu combines our global virtual computing solution, our trusted desktop management experience, proven application packaging processes and world class onsite support offerings to deliver a comprehensive desktop service.

GoDaaS is a managed desktop service built for the New Zealand Government. Fujitsu is a member of the Government ICT Common Capability DaaS panel managed by the Department of Internal Affairs, the Government’s ICT Functional Lead. GoDaaS isn’t just virtual desktops; it is a full End User workspace service that provides traditional and virtual desktops, remote support, onsite support, application packaging, and hardware devices. GoDaaS is based on Fujitsu’s global DaaS service which supports over 200,000 users and Fujitsu’s global experience as one the world’s largest ICT service providers.

Hosted Virtual Desktop

What is the Hosted Virtual Desktop?

The Hosted Virtual Desktop is Fujitsu's flagship product for GoDaaS; it delivers a virtual desktop with an evergreen, managed SOE, 41 packaged common applications, a self-service portal, patching and deployment; and a remote access facility via a high availability, dual-data centre platform.

Fujitsu's Hosted Virtual Desktop is a solution designed to offer a seamless desktop solution across multiple platforms, accessible from anywhere. Fujitsu uses AppSense Technology to provide end users with a truly personal mobile desktop experience, designed to retain data and application preferences centrally; keeping your workforce productive from any terminal at any location around the clock.

What options are available?

Our Hosted Virtual Desktop (HVD) solution has two options available to suit the requirements of your end users. Our standard HVD is geared towards standard corporate users; while the power HVD is aimed at users who require more computing power for high demand applications and multi-tasking.

Brief overviews of the specs are listed below:

Standard HVD is a dedicated virtual desktop using 1vCPU and 4Gb RAM with a persistent session;

Power HVD is a dedicated virtual desktop using 2vCPU and 8Gb RAM with a persistent session, designed for high-end Users.

What does the service include?

The GoDaaS virtual desktop Service includes:

  • Administration consoles for managing traditional desktops
  • GoDaaS desktop management platform;
  • 41 Common Applications (e.g. Adobe Reader, Java Runtime, Internet Explorer, Microsoft .NET plus many more)
  • Standard SOE with quarterly releases;
  • Security patch management and deployment;
  • Second level service desk to manage incidents and service requests specific to the GoDaaS platform and Services;
  • Standard reporting and billing;
  • Self-service portal delivering end-User self-provisioning
  • Virtual desktop remote access delivering a virtual or shared desktop accessed over the internet via single-factor authentication on a Citrix access gateway

Hosted Shared DesktopDelivered with the same features and options as a Virtual Desktop, this is a lower cost and performance option that delivers a desktop identical in look and feel to a number of users. This solutions is highly effective for groups of users who consume the same applications and need the same access rights. It is simple and easy to manage, therefore a good option for cost conscious Agencies.

What is a Hosted Shared Desktop?

The Hosted Shared Desktop (HSD) is a solution which aims to provide a standard virtual desktop with a specific set of applications and access rights to users. The HSD aims to provide a common desktop which has limited customisation and does not store data on the device; enabling multiple users to log in and out of the same terminal or PC.

This low cost solution works well for customers who only require a standard desktop image and applications across user groups (or across the entire organisation).

What are the benefits?

  • A centrally managed SOE for faster deployment of patches and updates
  • A secure, locked down desktop for your organisation
  • Faster boot times on start up
  • Cheaper hardware costs (or repurposing old PCs)
  • Flexible billing model - pay per desktop per month

What is Traditional Desktop Management?

Under GoDaaS, Traditional Desktop Management is a service available to Agencies who wish to remain using their existing Desktop/Laptop devices without the need to virtualise. This service provides a standard SOE, Management Platform and Common Applications for use; while allowing an agency to continue to use their existing devices and applications in an offline capacity.

This solution is perfect for Agencies who require users to have local machines or need offline access to data and applications while travelling or working offsite. Equally, this option is a great choice for agencies who would like to move to a virtual platform over time, but would like to maintain their current fleet until they have formulated their virtualisation migration strategy.

Under Traditional Desktop Management, an Agency can still take advantage of the other services available under GoDaaS such as a 2nd level Service Desk, Application Packaging, Hardware break-fix, Onsite Support (available nationally), spare parts/replacement devices and more.

What support services are available?

Under GoDaaS, you have the flexibility to create a support model to suit your business requirements; from completely self managed by your internal IT team, to comprehensively outsourced to Fujitsu using a range of remote support, onsite support and permanent deskside support engineers.

Through the support options available under GoDaaS, you can help lower the cost of desktop support via an end user self-service portal with automated workflows for logging incidents and service requests.
