Fujitsu opens Brisbane Data Centre to accommodate strong local growth

Fujitsu Australia recently announced the expansion of our data centre capabilities with the opening of a new data centre facility in Brisbane. The facility, which represents a multi-million dollar investment by Fujitsu in the Queensland market, comes on the back of high local demand for hosted and managed IT infrastructure.

“We have made a significant investment in this new data centre facility to ensure our Queensland customers have cost-effective and reliable access to premium infrastructure and service solutions,” said Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand. “The capital investment required to establish and maintain facilities such as this is beyond the scope of most businesses. The opening of this facility in Brisbane, gives Queensland customers access to world-class infrastructure and state-of-the-art security and data integrity, without the associated costs.”

The purpose-built 1,000 square meter facility combines a high level of redundancy and fail-over capability with the capacity to cater for rapid growth in demand. It complements Fujitsu’s existing data centre services which provide service level management 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for customers throughout Australia. Together with a full range of professional services, Fujitsu can deliver an end-to-end managed service to customers.

Peter McFarlane, Executive General Manager – Infrastructure Services, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand said, “Fujitsu has a long and impressive track record in managing data centres, not just here in Australia, but throughout the world. Our proven strength and experience in IT infrastructure management and service delivery allow us to provide a comprehensive business solution that meets customers’ entire hosting and managed services requirements."

Rod Vawdrey concluded, “The potential for growth in Queensland, which has been bolstered by the Queensland Government’s Smart State Strategy, was a contributing factor in our decision to extend our data centre capabilities in the state.”

Fujitsu heralded the launch of the Brisbane Data Centre with a traditional Japanese sake ceremony at its Queensland head office in Newstead on 29 November 2006. The ceremony was officiated by Dr Kazuo Murano, President, Fujitsu Laboratories Limited, Ted Pretty, Non-Executive Chairman, Fujitsu Australia and Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand.
