AAPT launches new era of business telephony with Fujitsu VoIP technology

Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand

Sydney, November 15, 2004

Leading telecommunications company AAPT has launched a series of voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) solutions designed for small-to-medium businesses. The services leverage Fujitsu VoIP technology and services to provide business customers with greater transparency and predictability in the pricing of voice and data services backed by powerful self-service capabilities that reduce total cost of ownership.

AAPT Hosted Voice brings together all of the typical communications services a small business needs for a flat monthly fee.

"AAPT Hosted Voice represents an important change in the way small businesses use telecommunications services because it puts the customer in control," said AAPT Chief Marketing Officer Jennifer Tejada. "It makes a company's monthly spend more predictable and gives small business users easy access to features that were once only available to larger organisations."

Hosted VoIP communications services can reduce costs for small businesses by eliminating PABX equipment and reducing reliance on specialist technical staff. Features such as voicemail, call diversion and flexible teleconferencing are hosted by AAPT and managed directly by the customer using a Web browser interface.

"Gone are the days of counting megabytes and minutes to see value in your communications," Ms Tejada said. "AAPT Hosted Voice gives customers immediate control over things like adds, moves and changes. We are serious about making things easy for customers."

A turnkey approach to next-generation telephony

AAPT and Fujitsu worked together to develop AAPT Hosted Voice as a turnkey solution. Its technical foundation is the acclaimed BroadWorks software suite from BroadSoft, the global leader in platforms for hosted VoIP services.

BroadWorks essentially operates as a software-based PABX. It provides powerful Web-driven management tools and complete integration with traditional telecommunications platforms, enabling AAPT to seamlessly interconnect customer VoIP environments with the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

Fujitsu is the principal systems integration partner for BroadSoft in the Asia Pacific market, with support centres in Singapore and Melbourne. Fujitsu is also working with AAPT to provide end-user services such as installation, training and customer premises equipment (CPE) deployment. This relationship leverages Fujitsu's comprehensive support infrastructure and world-class VoIP technology.

"Fujitsu believes VoIP is a compelling choice for many enterprise customers," said Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia. "Customers trust Fujitsu for expert advice on telephony, data communications and information technology infrastructure, so we are pleased to be working with AAPT to provide a new set of options for enterprises that want to take advantage of the flexibility benefits associated with hosted VoIP."
