Fujitsu introduces Allegro 7 SCSI hard disk drives

Fujitsu's next generation high-throughput SCSI interface hard drive family

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, August 14, 2001

Fujitsu Australia Limited, one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives (HDD) and computer peripherals, today introduced its new family of Allegro (AL) hard drives, MAN3xxx series 10,000rpm and the MAM3xxx series 15,000rpm, designed for optimum performance in enterprise storage environments.

To ensure the highest performance in a variety of demanding applications, Fujitsu's MAN series offers Ultra-160, Ultra-320 wide SCSI interfaces and also FC-AL2 (2GB/s) interface.

Fujitsu's new AL7 series consists of twelve new enterprise hard disk drives featuring over 18GB per platter and are offered with optimum capacity points of 18.4GB, 36.7GB and 73.5GB in one-inch high form factors.

Engineered for the most demanding server and workstation applications, the entire AL7 Series with 10,000 and 15,000rpm spindle speeds, provides an industry leading maximum internal transfer rate of up to 88MB/s and a fast average seek time of 4.5ms and 3.5ms respectively. FC-AL2 and 15,000rpm models come standard with a large 16MB cache while the 10,000rpm models are standard with an 8MB cache.

"Fujitsu continues to focus and deliver on drive performance, quality and reliability as reflected in the introduction of our new generation AL7 series," said Anthony Rixon, Fujitsu Australia's Product Manager Storage Products.

Fujitsu's commitment to industry-leading reliability

The new series features the industry's highest mean time between failures (MTBF) rating of 1,200,000 power-on hours. It also incorporates many reliability-enhancing features, such as low drive operating temperatures, alloy top cover for reduced acoustics, and an improved SMART detection system.

The combination of advanced, high performance features and efficient design embodied in Fujitsu's new AL7 series provides a compelling storage solution for customers seeking price to performance value.

Availability

Fujitsu's new AL7 Series enterprise hard disk drives are available from Australian resellers nationwide and are covered by a five-year manufacturer's warranty. The recommended retail price is A$550/NZ$685 for the entry level 18.4GB unit.
