Fujitsu announces Allegro 7 (AL7) 73.5GB SCSI hard disk drive

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, July 03, 2001

Fujitsu Australia, the largest supplier of hard drives for desktop computers in Australia, today released its new 73.5GB SCSI hard disk drive, which can "fit" more storage into a much smaller space.

The 73.5GB drive, available initially with Ultra-160 interface, is the first of the family of Allegro (AL7) series hard drives (MAN3xxx) to be released. The AL7 series has been engineered for high-end storage environments as well as the most demanding server and workstation applications.

Fujitsu's new high-capacity 73.5GB SCSI hard drive with 10,000RPM spindle speed, provides an industry-leading maximum internal data transfer rate of speeds up to 84MB/s. In addition to a fast data transfer rate, the Ultra-160 interface drive features a larger 8MB, multi-segmented data buffer and an improved average seek time of a low 4.5ms.

Anthony Rixon, Product Manager of enterprise storage products at Fujitsu Australia, said "The release of the 1" high 73.5GB drive will increase the storage capacities of systems based around the standard 1" form factor of drive storage systems. This reflects Fujitsu's commitment to maintain industry leading quality and data throughput of our enterprise storage products."

Fujitsu endeavours to continue providing an upgrade path as market conditions evolve and mature.

Availability and pricing

The AL7 Series 10 000 RPM Ultra-160 interface 73.5GB hard disk drive is now available from Australian resellers nationwide and is covered by a five-year manufacturer's warranty. Recommended retail price: A$2185 including GST.
