BMW Wien

BMW

BMW Wien is Austria’s largest BMW dealership. Established as a branch location of BMW Munich with 42 employees in 1988, the company today operates three locations with a total of 250 employees – the Heiligenstadt headquarters location with the used car and motorcycle center plus a branch in Vienna Donaustadt. An ultra-modern MINI competence center rounds off the offering.

As the business environment of BMW Wien and MINI Wien expanded in recent years, so did the IT requirements of the BMW locations. The reason for this growth was expansion within the city. First of all, the Donaustadt branch was added to the headquarters location in Vienna Heiligenstadt. In 2005, this was followed by the used vehicle and motorcycle center and a MINI location opened their doors. This expansion obviously resulted in a steady increase in personnel and IT resources. Modernization of the system landscape with PRIMERGY Servers from Fujitsu, including integration of FibreCAT storage systems, gave BMW Wien an IT infrastructure that was not only future-safe, but also offered better performance and, what was especially important, outstanding disaster recovery. The project involved elimination of more than a dozen servers with outmoded technology. These were replaced with the help of VMware, and their workload is now handled by virtual machines on the PRIMERGY Rack Servers used for the system platform.
