SIMS
Fujitsu's mediation system
As new telecoms service operators arrive on the scene and existing ones improve their service, it is becoming apparent that the key to building a competitive edge lies with the mediation system.
As service providers offer an increasingly-wide range of services and customers expect flexible billing, two highly specialised components are involved: the switch network and the corporate IT systems. In this environment the mediation system has not only to transfer call data, but also manage the difference between these components.
Fujitsu’s SIMS products are Unix based mediation systems that can collect billing data from most switching systems and reformat the data to suit a wide range of downstream information systems.
The basic free-standing system is designed for small to medium sized operators and this can be enhanced to provide a system which can handle operations for national fixed line operators incorporating Network Mediation Centres and Remote Operations.
The business benefits of SIMS
Fujitsu’s SIMS provides benefits both for you and for your customers. It gives you:
- Flexibility
The system can collect data from whatever hardware the exchange holds, and transfer it to your systems in a form they can handle. The system deals easily with new services and the consequent changes to your billing systems - Safety
Call data is transferred directly to the system from the exchanges, so that there is no risk of loss or corruption - Security
The systems are extremely robust and resilient with standard disk-mirroring features. Data is encrypted and can also be scrambled before transmission, if required. Audit trails allow you to investigate queries easily, and of course satisfy regulatory requirements - Speed
Because the data is transferred immediately to the systems which need it, you have tighter financial control and more accurate and faster billing - Reduced costs
Automatic data transfer means that you do not need staff to handle data tapes. Also, because the switches are polled regularly they need to hold less data on-line and are freed to handle the actual call switching - Available information
Operational and financial data is readily available and gives you an up to date view of site and network issues. Archived data allows you to carry out marketing analysis and ‘what if’ tariff operations
