Primergy TX150 S6 Server Sets World Record for Energy Efficiency
Kuala Lumpur, 23 May 2008 — Leading IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu Malaysia today released the Primergy TX150 S6 Linux and Windows tower server, which recently set a new world record for energy efficiency.
In an official SPECpower_ssj2008 benchmarking test(1) held in Germany last month, the Primergy TX150 S6 delivered the SPECpower_ssj2008 result of 1018 operations per Watt. In comparison, no other commercially available server has hitherto attained a score higher than 910 operations per Watt on the same test. The test score indicates that the Primergy TX150 S6 offers vastly superior performance over other commercially available machines with similar specifications from competing vendors.
The SPECpower_ssj2008 test is the first industry-standard benchmark to evaluate the power and performance characteristics of server-class computers, and was developed by the US-based Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (http://www.spec.org).
“Breaking through the 1000 operations per Watt barrier is testament to the superior design of the Primergy TX150 S6 server. Although the product incorporates the same industry-standard components as servers from competing vendors, the test result show that the Primergy range delivers maximum performance for the lowest-possible energy consumption,” said Mr Motohiko Uno who heads the Regional Marketing Group at Fujitsu Asia. “In addition, last month Fujitsu and Fujitsu Siemens Computers jointly recorded the highest year-on-year growth rate among the top five x86 server vendors globally. This illustrates that customers are increasingly aware that Primergy servers offer tremendous benefits and value to their businesses,” he added.
Released for the ASEAN (including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam) with immediate effect, the Primergy TX150 S6 is a one-way server engineered with components including:
- a quad-core Intel Xeon X3360 processor
- up to 8GB of random access memory
- a 500GB Serial Advanced Technology Attachment hard disk drive with a spindle speed of 7200 revolutions per minute

- Benchmarking tests on the PRIMERGY TX150 S6 delivered the SPECpower_ssj2008 result of 1018 ssj_ops/watt while running the
BEA JRockit(R) JVM (Java Virtual Machine) (build R27.5.0-110-94909-1.6.0_03-20080204-1558-windows-x86_64, in compiled mode),
while no other server has so far managed a score higher than 910 ssj_ops/watt.
The SPECpower_ssj2008 benchmark reports power consumption for servers at different performance levels – from 100 percent to idle, in 10 percent segments – over a set period of time. Such a graduated workload recognises the fact that processing loads and power consumption on servers vary substantially over the course of days or weeks. To compute a power-performance metric across all levels, measured transaction throughputs for each segment are first added together, and then divided by the sum of the average power consumed for each segment. The result is a figure of merit called "overall ssj_ops/watt".
The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) is a non-profit corporation formed to establish, maintain and endorse a standardised set of relevant benchmarks that can be applied to the newest generation of high-performance computers. SPEC develops benchmark suites and also reviews and publishes submitted results from member organisations and other benchmark licensees.
